A man pleaded guilty yesterday to raping a five-year-old girl so brutally he tore her vagina and broke the blood vessels in her eyes. Nicholas Dean Sennie, 46, will be sentenced next Tuesday for a crime he told the court only "an evil person" would do.
After a night of drinking with the girl's mother in September 2003, Sennie went into the sleeping child's bed and raped her, court heard.
"Her vagina was split with a third-degree tear to her anus and she required surgery to repair the injury," said Crown attorney Mick Makar. "He strangled her to the point where she had broken blood vessels in her eyes."
Sennie then took the 50-pound girl from her southeast Winnipeg home and held her captive in his car while deciding what he was going to do with her, court heard.
When the mother -- who had been dating Sennie for a few months -- woke up and found her boyfriend and her daughter missing, she called him on his phone.
The girl was later returned home, where Sennie held both mother and daughter captive at knifepoint before fleeing.
After a massive police manhunt, Sennie was arrested on a Canada-wide warrant.
Given the aggravating circumstances of this case, the Crown is asking for a 15-year jail sentence, said Makar.
"It is extremely disturbing because she's such a small girl and the effects upon her have been quite devastating," said Makar. "This wasn't a stranger. To some extent, the little girl trusted him."
The child required surgery to repair her physical wounds and has been undergoing counselling sessions with a clinical psychologist to deal with the emotional trauma.
COUNSELLING SESSIONS
The psychologist's report to the court stated the girl, who is now seven, was still severely traumatized by the rape and after 56 counselling sessions still has difficulty talking about it. Psychologist Linda Rhodes said in a report that the case is the worst she's ever dealt with in her 17-year career.
Sennie, previously convicted in 1979 for sexual assault, told court he hoped everybody involved would heal from their injuries.
He offered no excuses for what he did, although he said alcohol was a factor in his heinous crime. He asked for a six-year sentence.
Associate Chief Judge Mary Kate Harvie is scheduled to sentence him.

Oh sure, 6 or even 15 years.. By all means. That's just enough time to let him forget whatever tiny fraction of guilt he may have felt for his crimes allowing him to do it again unfettered by a guilty conscience.
Hopefully the prison population will deal with him, and he'll wish he could have death instead.

If this was even close to being true you couldn't throw rock and hit three or four of them in the states. Hardly a week goes by that the local newsies report a child rape and remark that the perp was a registered sex offender who lived nearby.
Well believe me, in prison, prisoners hate pedophiles and his rectum will be a major target the second he gets in there.

Taking the poor child from her house constitutes kidnapping, that should add a couple of weeks to what the Crown is asking for.
I think life without parole would be more appropriate. Let the inmate population take care of the rest.

Years ago I was in jail and there was a guy locked in a cell by himself because he raped a toddler. The gaurds took special pleasure in reminding us trustees why he was there. Every meal I served him over 6 months he ate off the floor.
The guards also liked to tell us about his very short life span when we were there at his cell.

Most likely, the mother had passed out from the excessive consumption of alcohol.
I grieve for the little girl; I hope that the mother will protect her better in the future.

Its easy after the fact wondering why she didn't call the police. But before she knew what happened, I suppose she may have thought they went to the store or something.

I was a drunk for a long time and I never raped anyone let alone any little girls. I know that even drunk I would have wanted to kill that animal.
I wonder if that's the same in a Canadian prison though.
