Posted on 04/22/2005 2:34:20 AM PDT by Liz
Sen. Ted Kennedy's brother-in-law is the mystery witness who raised $100,000 for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and then went undercover and wore a wire to help the feds nab one of her top moneymen on charges of fund-raising-fraud, The Post has learned.
The witness, Ray Reggie, 43, has a sister, Victoria, who married Kennedy in 1992, and prosecutors say Reggie secretly recorded "incriminating" statements made by David Rosen, a top Clinton fund-raiser.
Reggie was close enough to Bill and Hillary Clinton to sleep over at the White House in 2000 and stay up chatting with the first couple into the wee hours.
Sources tell The Post that he is the "cooperating witness" described but not named in recent court papers and that he is likely to testify at Rosen's May 3 trial as part of a plea deal struck with federal prosecutors.
The well-connected Reggie stayed undercover for nearly 21/2 years, helping the feds on multiple probes, and was still wearing a wire and making secret tapes as recently as last December, federal documents show.
Reggie hobnobbed at the very top Democratic levels. A month after he'd raised $100,000 for Hillary Clinton's Senate campaign in 2000, Bill Clinton invited him to a state dinner for the king of Morocco and a sleepover at the White House.
Reggie told The Times-Picayune of New Orleans that he and his wife later got a post-midnight knock on their bedroom door. The Clintons had come to chat.
Yesterday, Reggie, a Democratic campaign consultant who worked for both Clintons and for Al Gore, pleaded guilty in New Orleans to unrelated multimillion-dollar bank-fraud charges.

Now if they can just make some of it stick to the side of the barn ;) Please ....
I hope Mr. Reggie has many bodyguards. I'd be damned fearful of reprisals if I were him.
Here's the New Orleans Times-Picayune's version of the story.
I wonder what Reggie's wife looks like?
I have hosted quite a few guests in my home, but don't ever remember going down and knocking after midnight. What a couple of needy people!
If I had spend the night, with my wife, in the WH, I would want to be left completgely alone. I'm thinking it would be like the "mile-high club"...
I am not crossing my fingers. The Clintons have more lives than Satan's cat.
This should come as a suprise to no one. The battle for the control of the democratic party continues between the Kennedy-Kerry ultraliberal wing and the Clinton-Clinton crime cartel.
A bump and a marker so I can follow. (and snicker)
Hollywood fundraiser Aaron Tonken, says in his book "King of Cons" that he agreed to try to tape the former first lady's phone calls at agent Smith's request.
But by the time of Smith's request, said Tonken, team Clinton was aware he was part of the investigation into the Aug. 2000 event and avoided taking his calls.
If you were Willie Nelson and you spent the night in the WH you would have gone to the roof to smoke dope. I'm still not convinced that POS Bubba didn't join him. Everybody knows that if POS Bubba's POS brother Roger was there he was enjoying his nose candy between his turns at smoking Willie's dope.
That whole criminal enterprise made a mockery of our WH, the office of the Presidency, decency, tradition, the American people, etc, etc...the list just goes on and on.
TIMES PICAYUNE EXCERPT Reggie's cooperation with the federal probe surfaced Thursday as he pleaded guilty to two federal bank fraud charges unrelated to the Rosen case. One of the bank fraud charges cost Hibernia National Bank $3.5 million, prosecutors said.
So what else is new----innocent bank depositors are forced to underwrite the activities of these wealthy lowlife crooks.
Good morning...this just gets better and better..
Isn't this fascinating? In 2 1/2 years the FBI could have all sorts of interesting information!
Best news I've read all week. ping
It shows no sign of abating...
IT seems President George Bush has imposed an innovative series of workplace rules at the White House. Staffers have been instructed to be on time, practice common courtesy and dress appropriately. (This probably spells an end to the crack pipes on the White House Christmas tree, too.)
President Clinton's economic adviser Gene Sperling dismissed the adult environment at the Bush White House as the serendipity of having a budget surplus. He explained that the endless all-night jam sessions with panty-less women was the result of "how dramatically different it was to be in a time of deficits." (The connection between having to make important decisions and creating an environment in which it was impossible to make important decisions remains a bit murky.)
Bubba and Roger both inherited the nose candy gene. Pot is not their style.
A few points..he must have been a realy bad boy to get "such a deal.."..usually CW who spend two years co-operating will skate, or get a suspended sentence...So why did the govt insist on heavy jail time.....My take, FWIW, this way those who will soon be indicted ( and there will be many more..and some big names) can't claim that Reggie set them up in order to save his own skin..
This is absolutely amazing!
Prison ain't a safe place...
Well, you have a point. I am just fascinated with this story.
It's a great good morning in SC. With all the newz on the Demo-crooks, maybe SC Governor Sanford will get the honor of clasping the cuffs on BJC. Hope it is while he's 3-puttin' on the 13th hole at Kiawah. Then Big AL, then the Hill, then Teddy, then Spitzer, then Howie....eowwee!! Satan's cats will be screechin'. One can only dream of such glorious sights!
Yup..also..this is being carefully leaked...in an escalating manner, designed to put pressure on more people to come clean and roll over..Look..this guiy was out there as a CW for the feds for more than 2 years..the knows, and met with probably thousands of highly connected people..pols, business types..over that time..probably taped them all..Today, they are all rackign their brains to remember what they talked about, and everyone is calling his/her lawyer...You can expect many to come forward and proffer stuff to the feds..
OMG, y'all have to read this!
Sorry..my #25 was for you also...
Is this called a bomb shell or the mother lode?
Wow, two crime families going at it. One fighting dirty by rolling over for the Feds.
We need to see if little stories appear about certain people meeting with the feds.
IIRC, Victoria's father was a rather prominent judge in Louisiana. If the old guy is still living, I bet he advised his son to cooperate.
How do we know the gov't insisted on heavy jail time? Did I miss something in the article? Thanks.
Nice take........it's a rib-tickler thinking about all the Dumbocrats racking their, uh, brains, trying to remember what incriminating stuff they might have said to Reggie.
You won't hear about those publicly for a while..
No doubt-------I guess it's wishful thinking to think Reggie spied b/c he hated the Clintons.
In one of the the articles, I believe it said jail time..(though it was pretty early when I read it)...Usually, in cases like this, he'll plead guilty, accept the fine and the jail term..then, after he's through cooperating and testifying, the feds will make a motion for a reduced sentence because of his cooperation..but they won't give it to him BEFORE..IOW..he has to earn it..this keeps the CW honest, and also makes it harder for the defendants to discredit him..
Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.
We may indeed see justice.
........the Dim Domino Effect......
Wanna bet that in a few days we'll hear the following.."The DoJ has been conducting this investigation for several years. That means that it was begun by.....(gasp) John Ashcroft..
Yeah----that marriage was going nowhere---when you marry strictly for sex, that's what happens (/sarcasm).
Tonken's book was full of gossipy tidbits---but he's such a self-promoter, one has to wonder how much of it is true.
Actually, they're on the outs because Ted prefers the missionary position...TOT..Ted on Top..no way she puts up with that load..
I think my mind's eye just went blind...
Dude.."Janet Reno?"....gently suggesting you switch to decaf.....(g)
"It's okay, Howie, you can start screaming."
Sorry, but I thought, modestly, it wasn't bad for 7 am on a Friday morning..
