"Against the insidious wiles of foreign influence the jealousy of a free people ought to be constantly awake, since history and experience prove that foreign influence is one of the most baneful foes of republican government." ---George Washington, 1793

I guess the foreign influence he was talking about was coming from Canada ;))

I have read some of your posts on Religion and I probably understand more your point but still, I fail to see what there is to be aware of. The ideal of personal freedoms and democratic government as the freedom of a person to choose his government has been and continue to be the most attractive ideology in the world, especially if the harsh edges of these freedoms are balanced by Christian love and mercy.

You know, there is no need to provoke us. I understand that you could hardly bear any kind of agreement between Russians and Ukrainians, but please take your paid activities elsewhere. I am sure you do not live under the same roof with all your friends and probably you are sufficiently grown up to live separately from your parents, but still even such a person as you probably loves his parents and siblings even when not sharing the same kitchen with them. It is unlikely that you are so stupid as not to understand this, so please go with your provocations somewhere else.

Thank you for your words and let us hope they come true. The problem as I see it now is that the current Ukrainian government acts in tremendous hurry, trying to use the momentum to force the decisions which are not at all as straightforward and the consequences of which may be very worrying. A major threat is the opportunistic policy of the EU. The EU has expanded beyond all rational limits trying to create a superpower to rival the US. However, the EU cannot and will not ever accept Russia, neither Russia will ever agree to give up its sovereignty to the Brussels lefties. This leaves Ukraine in a very bad position indeed, with high chances of being torn along the old rift lines. This problem is not created by Russians or Ukrainians, this problem is created by the EU which badly needs to stop at some frontier and fortify it against what they consider barbarian invasions, if the EU is to survive. Unfortunately for all of us, this fortified frontier will inevitably coincide with a Ukrainian border, either eastern or western one. In either case, this will be a great tragedy for Ukraine. Frankly, I do not see a satisfactory solution right now. Of course, the best way would be to stop building fortified defense lines but this seems to be the main idea of the moment, either in Europe or in the US. The Iron Curtain is being built again, and it is very sad indeed. Sometimes I think the best for all of us would be if the EU follow the lead of the late Roman Empire it tries to recreate. Probably, not in our lifetimes, although I do look forward to the "NO" French vote.

First of all Boar, I asked Ivan not you.
If you don't like to be "provoked" then you should stay away from this forum and rather watch some cartoons.

I agree it will be difficult. But at least there is hope that the problems can be worked out. Thats far more then I EVER believed would exist in my lifetime for Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union.

I think it is a typical stupid remark very much in line of others made by Chernomyrdin. I feel ashamed that we (Russia) still have such people in government, people that are plainly not clever at all.
