When The New York Times, “Nightline,” and CNN nominate a young blonde for sainthood ahead of the Pope, it’s time for a reality check.
Especially when that blonde, Marla Ruzicka’s sole purpose is to legitimize our enemies, cause problems for U.S. troops already in harms way, and morally equivocate dead terrorists with victims of 9/11.
Jane Fonda lite—but unfortunately without having been spat upon by right-thinking veterans.
The recent death of Ruzicka, an American “activist” in Iraq, elicited an orgy of gush—everywhere from Time Magazine to The Guardian of London to Al-Jazeera.
A 28-year-old San Franciscan, Ruzicka was in Iraq “to help the Iraqi people,” proclaim the multi-orgasmic mainstream media memorials to her. Even the Wall Street Journal’s normally excellent Robert Pollock mourned “Ambassador Marla” for being a less gnarly America-hater than the others.
Et tu, Robert?
With her cascading blonde hair and youthful looks, Ruzicka didn’t look like your average greasy-haired, pot-smoking, hackey-sack-playing, crunchy radical. And the media swooned over her, the newly-anointed Vanity Fair pin-up in Birkenstocks.
But looks are deceiving. Marla Ruzicka was nothing more than a traitor cross-dressing as a peace activist.
She formed the Campaign for Innocent Victims in Conflict (CIVIC), the goal of which was anything but CIVIC during the War on Terror or ever. Ruzicka’s aim was to force the U.S. government to get an “accurate” count of “innocent civilian” deaths by U.S. troops and blackmail America into paying monetary settlements for each death.
But many of those dead included assorted terrorists, jihadists, and other collaborators and uprisers against Americans.

Hmm..as I recall, Christ cared about Romans too, even though they were occupying his nation. Somehow I doubt He would have cheered the death of a woman trying to help those in need. He could have told His followers to overthrow the Romans, but He didn't. That speaks volumes to me.

I have. And I've read the column. It is filled with lies and opinion. I judge anti-rightist propaganda with the same critical eye and take hits from liberals because of that. I am an independent and am not swayed against this woman because she was a leftist. I actually agree with her counting the dead, that was mandated in a recent law passed by Congress. This mean writer said Marla equated 911 victims with the deaths of terrorists. That is a lie. I do not look with favor upon liars, and I don't have any information to show Marla lied about anything. The mean writer also said that we shouldn't give the same empathy to Iraqi civilians as 911 victims. I disagree, 100%. I empathize will all innocent victims of terrorism, and war, regardless of whether or not it was deliberate or accidental.

I have followed the links. They do not prove Marla "deserved" to die for counting the Iraq war dead.
While I don't care for the groups she affiliated herself with, it does not mean she was a bad person. I have quite a few friends who are leftists, and I wouldn't be their friends if they were mean, evil people. I wouldn't look upon their deaths as something good, anymore than I would cheer a neo-con death.

Really? I think the people she tried to help may have developed the understanding that not all Americans want to kill them. When you speak of "they" you are speaking of terrorists, not Iraqi civilians. Just because one opposes the war does not mean they like Hussein or are allied with bloodthirsty warmongers like Al-Queda. Having sympathy with little boys who get their arms blown off is NOT the same as supporting terrorism.

But in closing, I will say this: If the leaders of the groups you link to had had their way, Saddam Hussein would still be in power, and those who you claim to care for would still be under the iron yoke of tyranny...subject to the 'tender mercies' of the Hussein boys' rape rooms, shredders and mass graves.
Our men and women have done an unprecedentedly great job of minimizing Iraqi civilian casualties and of directly helping them set their lives aright under freedom.
People like Marla Ruzinka and those they travel with have done a grave disservice to those brave Americans, and in the final analysis empower the very things they claim to hate.
Saying "people like her" denies her individuality. It is assumed she was pro-Sadaam, but I highly doubt this. In any event, I respect your opinion to the extent that you don't like her politics. But she is dead and lets let the dead rest. I am going deep-sea fishing so I haven't time to debate. Maybe before I go to bed, but I have to get up at 2 am.

You disgust me. I am a friend of Marla's. I am revolted by how both the left and right have both in almost equal measure claimed and villified her after her death.
Marla Ruzicka is an American heroine and anyone who doesn't think so should get off their keyboard and get out there and do something themselves. How many of you criticS have been to Afghanistan or Iraq? And yes, before you ask, I have been. How many of you have risked your lives to find the truth? Think before you post your bile. Get off your asses and try and change what goes on and then I'll give you some respect.
