Well the posters in the "handcuffed girl" thread tell me that this kid needs to be put in timeout and that handcuffing them isn't a very good choice of restraint.

Kid is probably Bi-Polar, which means he has another pole somewhere.

Teacher brought her mouth to a pole fight - she lost!

...a large pole - about 28 inches long and 1½ inches in diameter

Fer cryin' out loud. A 28-inch-long piece of wood is called a "stick" where I come from. It sounds like an axe handle. A "pole" is something you string power and telephone lines on.

More abuse of journalistic license for added drama.

Precautions were taken at the Julian Thomas on Thursday, said Linda Flashinski, Unified's director of communication and public affairs.

Outside doors were locked and students remained in their classrooms, except for specialty classes, Flashinski said. There were no recesses and students ate lunch in classrooms. A crisis counselor was available for students and staff.

Good grief! All this because an 8-year-old whacked the principal with a stick? There is no sanity left in the public school system.

ROFL! Wickedly funny.

The school needs a stronger staff. ;)

I've gotta figure out a way to make more money so we can afford to homeschool our daughter.

My thought exactly. What the hell do they need a crisis counselor for?

Were the kids too traumatized by hearing about it at the water fountain?

I hope, I hope, I hope I can talk my wife into homeschooling.

Was it a ten-foot pole?

Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but stuff like this didn't happen in grammar schools in the "old" days when kids had to be responsible for their actions, when they feared a spanking by the parents, or in junior high school, a swat from the principal. Parents can't even spank their kids now without fear of going to jail, and swats by the principal are unheard of. The kids have nothing to fear anymore, and they take advantage of that. Just my take.

THat's why I could never work in the Public School System because if some kid tried to hit me with anything he would find himself picking himself out of the Dempsey Dumpster.

As many teachers I did not like in School never thought about being dis-respectful because we had parents that had quite a long leather strap that hurt like hell when whacked with it!

Kid said he brought the stick to school to protect himself from other kids. When the teacher tried to take it from him maybe he took it out on her that he had to bring a stick for protection in the first place. He should be taught not bullied.
