Many Christians can’t accept ‘live and let live’ and some look like "Nazi Youth Members"
The Columbia, Missouri Daily Tribune ^ | Saturday, April 23, 2005 | Debbie Johnson

Posted on 04/23/2005 7:39:40 PM PDT by rface

Dear Editor of the Columbia Tribune:

I was sitting at home the other evening when there was a knock on my door. When I answered, I found two young men, dressed alarmingly like Nazi Youth members, standing at my door. I saw their name tags and the identification of a Christian church. I informed them, immediately, that mine was not a Christian home and that they should leave. Ah, but that was not enough. They demanded my name and an explanation; they simply could not accept that not everyone in the world is a Christian. I gave them an explanation.

I’m an American Indian (Choctaw). My family and my ancestors have a long history with Christians who, when persuasion didn’t work, resorted to strong-arm tactics, torture, murder, even kidnapping Indian children and sending them off to "mission schools" to force my people to become Christians. My people have long memories, and our distrust of Christians runs hundreds of years deep.

I finally had to threaten to call the police and file trespassing charges to get these youths to leave. A simple "no" was not enough.

My people believe deeply that there are many paths to the creator. When someone finds one’s path, that is cause for rejoicing. However, too many Christians believe that theirs is the only path and that if you don’t follow their beliefs, steps must be taken to change your mind. For far too many Christians, "live and let live" is an alien concept.

here's a tid-bit about the great Choctaw tribe

Indian Slave owners

By: TW SMith
Date: Thursday, 2 August 2001, at 9:49 a.m.

A lot of people do not realize indians were slave owners. Through my research, i have realized the secret on the freedmen rolls people were playing with the freedmen and people who would read these rolls were thinking. My great grandfather name was Israel Colbert, born abt 1854 in Misssissippi. His father name was Edmund Colbert born abt 1834 in Mississippi. His father name was Sam Colbert born mid 1800's. Well when you look at edmund colbert freedman card his owner is a choctaw indian, his father name is SAm Colbert. Well sam Colbert was the big time choctaw indian slave owner that owned many slaves down in arond Choctaw county were my relatives were from. There is no other sam colbert that old i could find but sam colbert the choctaw indian. Many people have told me that indeed sam colbert the slave owner was the father of edmund colbert. I know indians and whites fathered many children by slaves.

I am probably too lazy to contack Debbie the Choctaw Indian that might owe some $$ (reparations) to former slave families - but maybe I'll drop her a note

Every group has its extremists, and self-defined Christians are no different. The author fails to note that the it's only in historically Christian nations where people have any tradition of tolerance and a "live and let live" approach to dealing with their neighbors.

Debbie, for future reference...

"No, thank you, gentlemen [or ladies, for that matter]. I'm not interested. Have a good day."
Close the door.
You're done.

I haven't seen any Mormons packing Winchesters or Buck knives on their bikes lately. They're not going to kill you. No need to be a paranoid jackass.

"They demanded my name and an explanation; they simply could not accept that not everyone in the world is a Christian."

My home is also not a Christian home. We get missionaries occasionally. They are without exception polite. They certainly never dress like "Nazi Youth" members—presumably "Debbie" is referring to the Hitler Youth, who wore brown uniforms, not black slacks and white dress shirts. Missionaries never "demand" anything, and they're perfectly able to "accept" that not everyone in the world is a Christian. Indeed, if everyone in the world were a Christian, that would eliminate the entire point of missionaries, now wouldn't it? The mere concept of missionaries implies that not everyone in the world is Christian.

So, in the absence of any corroborative evidence, "Debbie"—if that's her real name—has fabricated this incident to push her agenda.

I've occasionally been pestered by Jehovah's Witnesses. You just have to politely cut them off and shut the door.

Sometimes missionaries can be pests, but I've never seen a hint of any kind of threat or violence. Just shut the door on them if you don't want to be pestered.

After all, they are doing good according to their lights. I'll take a Jehovah's Witness to a telemarketer any day.

I don't beleve her story, either. I've dealt with similar situations, and a "thank you, but I have my own church, have a nice day" works for me.

I'd bet she talked to them and got a little more confrontational, and conveniently omits that from her letter.

In fact slavery among Indian nations such as the Choctaw was not outlawed until long after the War Between the States, sometime around 1888.

Another liberal plant letter I say. It's chock full of their latest talking points.

How often were the "Hitler" or "Nazi Youth" even mentioned before the election of the new Pope? How would you recognize one at your door?

The letter is written by a minority, being oppressed by, presumably white people.

The "christians" were forcing their views on her. They "demanded" her name and an explanation? I think not. Christians "strong armed and tortured her people" of course they did, that's all they do right? They force their views on a society and torture you to death if you don't fall in lock step with them.

"When one finds their path to the creator...?" Sounds like Jim McGreevey's "My own personal truth" speech. No, there is no orthodoxy, the world is made up of everyone's personal paths and truths.

"Live and let live"? Horsecrap! More like "leave me alone so I can live the way I want to."

Nope, I don't believe this event happened at all, the liberal talking point and letter writing machine has been going full tilt for weeks now and this is just another form letter. IMHO.

Told him "No thanks" and he politely moved on.

This letter is a desperate appeal for help by a person who has no inner peace and no faith in the Lord. This letter is a cry for help to the anti-Christians who have been lieing to her to come and keep telling her that she is right and Jesus is wrong.

This woman lies. She has not found the "true path to the Creator". This letter is proof.

Why did she send a letter to the editor?

Several reasons;

1) She has been taught to hate Christians. "dressed like NAZI's"? That is a lie that proves she hates Christians as much as Hitler. She is not at peace with the Lord.

2) She does not believe in live-and-let live. She has slammed all Christians with this letter and seeks to hurt them as much as possible. The boys came to her privately (if they came at all) but she goes public without any possibility of retort by the boys. She is not at peace with the Lord.

2) She does not believe in freedom of religion. She seeks to quash christianity using the media, and police. They knock on her door with words of encouragement and she insults them publicly to thousands.

3) Her faith is so weak she fears being converted by boys. She has not found her "true path to the Creator".

4) Her faith is so weak she seeks public validation for her position. Somebody will tell her, "you're right on" with her letter. She will feel encouraged by another anti-Christian. Had she truly found the Lord she would not need to tell lies in a newspaper to feel good about herself.

5) She bears hatred for people who never committed any acts against her. Their ancestors were evil so she must hate every new baby from their descendents? She hates because of what happened 120 years ago? She has not found peace, she has not found the Lord.

She is seeking hate. She is looking to hate. Hate is her emotion which makes her feel connected with the Lord. Only her "Lord" is not the Lord of love.
This female worships satan and doesn't even realize it. She is living fully in the depths of deception and bile.

poor lady. She will not know peace until she knows Jesus Christ. She knows without a doubt that Jesus is the one true path to the Father, but her own arrogance and ego puffed up by her fellow anti-Christians keeps her from Him.

Cut their hair short, ironed shirts, pressed slacks. You know, natural born outlaws.

If they came to her door at all, they were probably Mormans. Part of their missionary work is to travel in pairs on bicycles, and dress pretty much like Kmart assistant managers.

I'll bet she's a hoot at parties.

LOL

this reminds me of the irritation I feel whenever we hear about the slave owners in our history and how we "owe" the blacks today for what was done to their great-great-great grandparents.

I say, fine. Just as soon as you get reparations from the blacks in Africa whose ancestors captured yours and brought them the coast to sell to their white counterparts...come and see us.

Oh, maybe better - since my ancestors had to leave England in the early 1600's because of religious persecution, maybe I should sue England for reparations... :O)

What do Hitler youth look like? You mean they are white?? A little racist aren't you.

For someone who is an expert on the dress of Hitler Youth, I am surprised you did not notice the difference between Hitler Youth and Christians.

Hitler Youth would have entered your house; ransacked, broken everything, smacked you senseless then taken your family to a camp where you would have been worked, tortured beaten and starved to death.

Subtle difference, but I am sure you can grasp it if you think about it.

Before I became a Christian (the Bible way; is there another?), I just shut the door. Now I tell them I'm glad they came by, ask for their 'bible', and proceed to show them portions of it that they don't believe. When they come in threes, I have noticed that at least one is probably new, because that one speaks very little, if at all. Then I really get excited, as that new convert gets to see the 'old pros' get flustered when having to deal with "..a workman...rightly dividing the word of truth". (1 Tim. 2:15)

Here I go again.

I am Creek and Kiowa. My three-Greats-back Grandfather was the last living Sun Dance Priest and a keeper of the Taime.
When his son, my Great-Great-Grandfather, a Christian, died during the influenza epidemic of 1918, his father examined Christianity and compared it to his own religion. He concluded that he would never see his son again if he did not become a Christian. And he really wanted to be with his son in eternity. He accepted Christ. It is the testimony of my family that he did. The changes in his life according to I John 1 demonstrate that he did.

Now, various Kiowa tribal traditionalists continue to be intolerant and hateful and continue to insist that my GGGGrandfather never became a Christian.

So apparently Christians aren't the only intolerant and hate-filled people in Indian country. A lot of traditionalists are that way, too.
