The Bolton Fiasco
The National Ledger ^ | April 25, 2005 | Robert Novak

WASHINGTON -- The White House and Republican Senate leaders have a little better than two weeks to save John Bolton as ambassador to the United Nations after last Tuesday's fiasco in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. All that can be promised is that their efforts on Bolton's behalf will be tougher and better organized than they have been so far. That should not be difficult because they could hardly be worse.

Republicans, weak and disorganized, were ground down by the Democratic juggernaut. Sen. George Voinovich of Ohio was so impressed by Democratic demagoguery that he impulsively dropped his support of Bolton, ending the narrow 10 to 8 committee tally for sending the nomination to the Senate floor. But since Voinovich is notoriously quirky and prone to break his Republican leash, the question arises why the White House was not more attuned to making sure he was safely on board.

It looks like all the white house cares about any more is social security. I think Bush needs to get tough on his appointments, especially the judicial appointments.

The White House only cares about building legacy. More govt funded welfare programs, the better it is for George Bush.

Here is the primary reason why the RATS object to John Bolton.....

They fear his steadfast and resolute belief that the United States should lead the world and the U.N. must be persuaded to promote Freedom and Democracy first and that human rights will naturally follow in the process.

For the United States to be anything other than the leader of the free world is a slap in the face of the hundreds of thousands of our warriors who sacrificed their lives for the liberty of complete strangers.

This is a concept the Democrats still can't grasp. They refuse to believe that Freedom is the basis for which all mankind should be governed, and where wisdom and truth is found.

These are the simple truths our founding fathers used to write our Constitution and the todays Democrats refuse to believe that the power belongs to the people and not the Government.

John Bolton is just the person to convey this message

The White House is more interested in expanding Great Society programs so Bush can build a legacy. His dad gave us ADA, he gave us prescription drugs. More welfare programs to follow.

If Bush was basing his Presidency on his "legacy" he could have rode into the history books without confronting Iraq and the overall problem in the Middle East.

Your screen name reflects that you might be an economy graduate, I'll grant you that without any proof. But you have exposed yourself as simplistic and ill informed when it comes to this Presidents foreign policy.

I suggest you stick to murky economic statistics, cause you don't know Jack about much else

Murky economic statistics? Hmmm...how about sky-rocketing federal debt? How about a prescription drug plan whose full cost was lied about? How about Sarbanes-Oxley that depressed corporate earnings?
