His eyes were so glued to the paper it appeared to be the first time he had seen it.

Yea ... he stuttered a few times also

I am very interested in who wrote that speech .. because he sure didn't

There was not one "Hey Boss" in it

Hatch is wiping the floor with Biden. I hate Orrin "The Dream Act" a little less. And the tie is atrocious.

It's hard to keep from saying for the umpteenth time that Biden is a show-off jerk.

Orin Hatch is at his best when he is defending the Constitution and the Senate's responsibilities by making the case w/historical FACTS.

Hatch is laying out exactly what the dems are doing. Biden and the others are not trying to convince their collegues across the aisle by debate. They're just creating soundbites for the evening news.

Hatch IS doing a good job laying out the facts.....the
problem is, no one will hear him. The Senate GOP need a
high profile venue with which to educate the american public
on this issue.

Good link.

Interesting how until now a DEMOCRAT did the threatening of the Constitutional Option.

A DEMOCRAT instituted Rule 22, cloture, in 1917.

A DEMOCRAT changed the number required to end debate in 1975 from 67 to 60.

DEMOCRATS proposed to eliminate the filibuster all together in 1996.

Who was it on Crossfire that claimed that 30 nominees had been filabustered by the Republicans, if anyone knows. Orin didn't name names, but said it was a prominent liberal.

Hatch needs some fashion advice from Freepers. I'm about ready to send him a tie by way of thanking him for this speech.

Why are they going through all of this again? They had that rousing all-nighter session [snicker] last spring in which they gave all these speeches then.

Senator Frist, just get to the vote or turn control over to the Dems!!!!

Enough already!!!!!

I don't know, but judging from past C-Span coverage, they're sure to have it on TV. If you hear the time, please ping me.

Why are they going through all of this again?I do not know the answer to that, and, like you, I am tired of it. The dems game plan is to delay and delay until maybe things look better for them. It's what they did with Bolton's nomination. I watched the video of the FRC committee meeting again yesterday and what the dems did there was orchestrated. I sincerely hope Lugar is more angry than he has ever been. He was completely rolled and made to look like a fool by his "esteemed friends".

DEMOCRATS proposed to eliminate the filibuster all together in 1996.

Sorry, 1995.

Here is the skinny:

It was Senate Amendment 1 to Senate Resolution 14. Sponsor was Senator Harkin.

It was done in the 104th Congress.

AMENDMENT PURPOSE:
To amend the Standing Rules of the Senate to permit cloture to be invoked by a decreasing majority vote of Senators down to a majority of all Senators duly chosen and sworn.
