Skip to comments.Ad Putting L.A. in Mexico Called Slap in Face

New billboards advertising a Spanish-language newscast on KRCA-TV Channel 62 were intended as an attention-grabber for its core audience, but instead have struck a nerve with activists seeking to curb illegal immigration.
The billboards show two cable newscasters sitting in front of the downtown skyline, with "Los Angeles, CA" printed above. The "CA" is crossed out, and "Mexico" is stamped alongside in bright red letters. Underneath are the Spanish words, "Tu ciudad. Tu equipo." Your city. Your team...
"We tell the story behind L.A.., and we tell the story behind Mexico," [Executive Vice President Lenard Liberman of Liberman Broadcasting, owners of KRCA 62 UHF] said. "If they find that offensive, I'm sorry. But you just have to drive around L.A. to know that this is a Hispanic city."
Stuart Fischoff, who teaches media psychology at Cal State L.A., said the billboard was like "sticking a finger in your eye" to immigration reformers. "The joke here is, 'We're taking back California,' " Fischoff said. "Underneath the joke is part of the truth."

I tried to contact those companies for a statement on the billboard:
Dodge's customer service wouldn't connect me with anyone in their corporate offices. Even their WHOIS has that same customer service number, but I'll see if I can find a direct number.
Kia has not (yet?) returned my call.
Coors returned my call but said they only advertise on national networks. I did see one of their national ads, but it might have just been a space filler, a test, or placed by a local group or similar.
Will the last American out of California please remember to bring the Flag with them. Thank You
No kidding, it's time to write that state off and abandon ship.
Let's get this straight.
You are contacting radio station sponsors to complain about some idiotic billboard?
Does the fact that over Ten Million illegal aliens are already living in the USA and no one is doing anything about it cause you any discomfort at all?
You just might have to add "andcompany" to your screen-name and brush up on your Spanish,Gringo.
Obviously, that channel is the mexican version of al jereeza of the middle east.
What about trying to yank their FCC license?
No it's not. And NOT cuz I live here. Think about it...what if EVERYONE abandons ship? The illegals take over, right?
Well, do you think that's going to stop them from moving north and east?
Coming soon, to YOUR state, everyone...we've gotta band together here...
I'm suggesting that we fall back to Nevada, Arizona, and Oregon and then fortify heavily. It's not running away if you're falling back with a plan. What's to keep them from spreading North and East? Angry ex-Californians.
The People's Republik of Kalifornia is already lost. Time to cut our losses and contain the plague before it can spread.
Boy your tagline sure does'nt match you respone. All hat and no wavoos huh ? Bet Travis is proud of you. spit
Travis didn't have anywhere to fall back to, he was surrounded.
And besides, firepower is illegal in my former home state of Kali-for-nye-aye, donchaknow.
Only a fool fights in a burning house, and Kali's been burning down for years. I propose that the smart people leave, quarantine the place, wait for the inevitable collapse, then retake it. Sam Houston did something similar - he retreated, waited for the inevitable mistake, then capitalized on it.
Hogwash. (to a degree....)
Who's this "we" you speak of? If America isn't willing to fight for CA, TX, etc., what makes you think she's got the guts to fight for anything?
Bet your gran daddy was a joy to have around the Alamo. You bring dishonor to this forum Newbie. We fought through the Clinton years and we don't run just because of some sign. Run on home to your ma boy.
Continue sending Federal tax returns to Fresno for the time being.
(shrug) I moved from the PRK to TX to help reinforce the place - the fight's still going on here. The fight in CA was over in 1995 - the good people lost.
I left the PRK and went to a free state when they announced they were thinking of confiscating things like SKSs and nobody seemed to complain. Pretty good sign that the battle was over and we'd lost.
