TV evangelist Joyce Meyer and her family have received millions in salary and benefits from her worldwide ministry in recent years, according to newly released records.
The documents, obtained by the Post-Dispatch under Missouri's Open Records laws, provide the first public look at how the worldwide broadcasting and publishing empire has compensated Meyer and her family.
They paint a picture of a minister and her family who have reaped large financial rewards from the ministry they created and control. Over 20 years, Joyce Meyer Ministries of Fenton has grown to a $90 million-a-year empire with TV and radio programs that reach millions of people in about 70 countries.
Among the details included in the financial statements, board minutes and other documents Meyer provided to the assessor of Jefferson County in a dispute over the tax-exempt status of its headquarters property:
The ministry's board of trustees, which is headed by Joyce Meyer, agreed to pay her a $900,000 annual salary in 2002 and 2003.
The board agreed to give her husband, Dave Meyer, the board's vice president, an annual salary of $450,000 in each of those same two years.

I'm sure Joyce gives ...how much to the poor?
I find televangelists distasteful in the extreme.
Jesus wept.
Don't do it.....she's gonna have much to answer for....particularly for all those she has led down the faith-in-faith & health-and-wealth path.
There is no surprise here. Jesse Jackass gets paid Al Sharpton gets paid, Jimmy Swaggart gets paid, they are all in it for the money, Why the surprise?
They seem to have some sort of charisma that ensares people. (Makes me think of Bill Clinton?)
An air-conditioned dog house can't be too far down the road...
I don't think Joyce is in the Sweigart/Tilton category. At least I hope not!
Quite possible.
The logical outcome of a theology that believes that you can do anything you want, once you are "saved".
Allright. You talked me out of it! ;o)
I'm with you. Whenever I see Myers, my thoughts run towards Tammy Faye Baker, Jan Crouch, and the like. Myers wears a little less make-up that Tammy & Jan, but her outfits and jewelry are a bit flashy. My church is not into televangelists...or women preachers, for that matter.
You'll find that Joyce has a small following here on Free Republic. To each his own walk with the Lord, I guess.
She used to be a LCMS Lutheran before she decided to get in on the action as a TV evangelist during the heyday of Jim and Tammy Faye Baker. These people have no shame as they flaunt their partnership with Mammon.
I'm only suprised by the amount. Rev Al & Jesse don't get $$ from preachin. They use extortion.
Yes, I think Slick Willie could have another career on the horizon!
Mark 10:21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
Mark 10:22 And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.
Mark 10:23 And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
Thank you for that timely reminder!
You are Healed!
Who had the AC on the dog house? I heard that before.
well said!

I hope they are just misguided and not actively trying to fleece anyone (like Robert Tilton)
Lot of judging going on here tonight. See what's in your eye before worrying about what is in another's eye.
The Post Dispatch has been exposing her financial dealings for years now and she just keeps fleecing the flock.
The bottom line however is nobody is forcing people to give her money.
The aspect of the whole thing that bothers me is the tax exempt status of her and her 4 adult children. Buying and selling real estate with the churches tax exempt atatus.
If I but and sell a house that's not my primary residence I have to pay taxes on the profit, not so Joyce and her kids.
thanks. 'tis interesting, to say the least.
Would Jesus wear a Rolex on his television show?
That's what freepers do best!
Hmmm. Good question. I know I'll still wear my Timex when I hit the paydirt!
It is far past time that ministries and ministers lose their tax exempt status, and the income shield of the phony 'vow of poverty' used to avoid taxation.
allowing it to continue, invites frauds to 'serve god', and drives good people OUT of ministry altogether.
OR end the irs, and tax us all at the retail level.
no black market ministry exemptions.
we all deserve to be income tax exempt.
"we all deserve to be income tax exempt"

I'll vote for you.
Come on now... Every faith church has to raise money to keep the faith. Every televangelist is tax exempt.
Those who benefit from the system are doing God's work. Riches under God are not prohibited.
Freedom of Faith, Freedom of speech---there is no answer for the gullible and those who "think" to pay for a one-way ticket to heaven.
Televangelists rake in $millions, and they all have grand life styles. Dimes from the faihful, Rolls Royces for the pastors. It's an old story.
It is an old story. And I have little sympathy for those getting fleeced with the exception of the very elderly.
That said, I do not know enough about this gal to say much about her validity as a woman of God.
Might as well sell used cars.
can I get rich that way??
A $90 million dollar a year empire and they pay their leaders $1.3 million. Is that out of line? I don't know. Are they spreading the word? Certainly. There is just too much jealously and condemnation here, IMHO. Maybe they are too controlled by material possession, but that is not my call to make. We all have our faults, and I don't have the ability to say what is in their hearts.
I said earlier I did not know enough to make a definitive judegment on her. But I can see a rat pretty quickly. I took me 4 minutes to realize Robert Tilton was a dirtball. And 30 seconds for Rev. Al.
That being said, I don't think they should be tax-exempt and I don't care for Meyers. She grates on me.
Joyce Meyer Ministries is not a church. It is a worldwide ministry. Joyce IS JMM. Without her there would be no ministry. Dave, her husband, is the business manager of the ministry, and all of their children work for the ministry.
I am unsure if these facts change any of your thoughts, however, I thought I would pass them on.
Me, too.
Repossess at midnight on the first missed payment.
What would Jesus do? He sure wouldn't get rich and live in the lap of luxury by making merchandise of the flock.
Joyce and her family live in opulent style on the backs of a lot of sincere people who probably don't have much but send her money anyway to support her supposed Gospel ministry. She and her family in turn live like millionaires. It's not right.
I donate to the local Christian homeless mission. As far as I know, the director is a man of integrity who doesn't feel the need to spend money donated to the mission on boats, fine furniture, lake homes, million-dollar houses, fancy cars, and a jet for himself.
Does she tithe?
I am unsure if these facts change any of your thoughts, however, I thought I would pass them on.
Sounds to me like a crime family. The only difference between the Meyer's and the Mafia is that all of the former are related.
If you wish to be judged by measuring up to the standard of Jesus, that is your choice. I fall short in several areas, as I am sure Joyce does. But Joyce does a lot of work spreading the word and has made a lot of sacrifices, so I am not one to condemn too easily. The money you donate to local missions is great.
Would that make a difference to how you judge her?
