New York, May. 04, 2005 ( CNA ) - Planed Parenthood has launched a campaign to motivate all of its members and supporters, nominal Catholics and non-Catholics, to send letters to the editor, requesting that Pope Benedict XVI reconsider his backward views and change his opinion on sexual morality.
Pope Benedict XVI must be encouraged to reconsider his dangerously outdated stances on birth control, abortion and sexuality in order to help move the Catholic Church into the 21st century, reads a memo issued by campaign manager Eve Fox.
The new Pope's positions on these crucial issues pose a terrible danger to the health of millions of women and girls around the world and undermines efforts to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS, Fox wrote.
The campaign manager justified this action, saying that the the Church has tremendous influence over many governments, especially in Latin America, and plays a powerful role in shaping social and political norms around the world.
Calling him even more conservative than Pope John Paul II, Fox told her supporters that Pope Benedict XVI is against all forms of contraception and opposes the use of condoms to prevent HIV/AIDS.
Prior to being elected Pope, Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger told Catholics in the U.S. it would be a sin to vote for pro-choice candidates like John Kerry, and urged bishops to deny Kerry Communion. He has also led the Catholic Church's campaign against same-sex marriage and other rights for same-sex couples, including the right to adopt children, wrote Fox.

outdated stances on birth control, Oh, truth is time-dependent. I guess the Church didn't know this. I'm sure the Church will change position now that It's been enlightened.

Oh Lord! I hope the Pope, if he even gets wind of this, laughs!! It's not his opinion you are questioning, you fools, it's the word of God. The Pope is the messenger, of GODS WORD!!

What, is Planned Parenthood gonna demand a recount?

Gets my goat too! Planned Parenthood, and anyone else who speaks out about this, need to be called on their anti-catholic actions! Last time I read the Constitution, one does not attack on the basis of religion.

Might I suggest that they also write letters to the editor complaining about the "outdated morals" of God Himself since that would be the ultimate source of Benedict XVI's teachings on the subject?

Parenthood is such a backwards idea. Babies should be produced in vats, factory-style, and raised in state-run homes that will inculcate appropriate values in them via education and hynopaedia.BRAVE NEW WORLD

Why do "nominal and non" Catholics care? I'm not a Catholic, as a result I have no interest in trying to convert the Catholic leader to my point of view! Just like I am not a Lutheran, so I'm not trying to change their teachings.

These guys wish they could filibuster the Pope selection. Perhaps a liberal Pope could interpret the bible to their liking and then we would be lectured that his interpretations are the law and we cannot question them.

and undermines efforts to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS Let's see, the Pope is probably all for ABSTINENCE which, as far as I can tell, is the SINGLE BEST DETERRENT to the spread of HIV (much less pregnancy).
Yeah, he really is undermining efforts to prevent the spread. Uh-huh.

Good for Cardinal Ratzinger/Pope Benedict XVI. I'm not Catholic but it looks like the current Pope is on the right track with the kind of reform the Catholic Church really needs, which is a backbone to stand up to the whiny American "cafeteria" Catholics. Maybe they should all go join the Episcopal church because if the Catholic church went the way they wanted it to go, that is what it would become and that would be a shame.

I think the modern Nazi eugenicists at Planned Parenthood are gonna need a lot of luck with this PR campaign. They finally admitted that they were unsuccessful in their attempt to bribe the Vatican with a $1
billion "contribution" back in the 1960s to get the Church to "lighten up" on its moral teachings on birth control and abortion.
Josef Cardinal Ratzinger doesn't seem like the kind of person who gives a flaming sh!t about PR campaigns.
