Evelyn Lutman Roberts, the wife of evangelist Oral Roberts for 66 years, died Wednesday in a California hospital after suffering a head injury. She was 88 years old.
Mrs. Roberts' death came a day after she fell in the parking lot of a dentist's office, striking her head on the pavement and causing massive internal bleeding. Taken to a nearby hospital, she lapsed into a coma and never regained consciouness.
Both of Mrs. Roberts' surviving children, Richard Roberts, president of Oral Roberts University and daughter Roberta Roberts Potts had flown to Newport Beach, Calif., on Tuesday to be with their mother and father.
Richard Roberts, speaking by phone from Newport Beach, said he had spoken to his mother by phone after her initial examination at the hospital.
"She was perfectly clear and cogent," he said, "but she was complaining that the hospital staff was focusing on her hip. She told me, 'Pray about my head. I have this strange feeling -- this strange pain in my head.' "
I don't think much of Oral Roberts but condolences to the family.
May she rest in peace.
May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
Ah, she was a sweet lady. She's in heaven now.
I'm not surprised that there are ugly comments about her and her family. They were conservative, God fearing people. This kind of family is less and less popular at FR.
Prayers for her soul and for her family.
Please forgive my ignorance... but Oral Roberts isn't still living... is he? Didn't he already pass on, or am I not remembering properly?
He's alive at 87.
May she rest in peace with the Lord, and may He console and uplift her family in their grief!
Condolences to the Roberts family..
Well I'll be...
Thanks. Prayers for all. Theological differences aside.
On that subject, Billy Graham will be 87 later this year and his longtime friend gospel singer George Beverly Shea is 96.
Sixty-six years of marriage. Wow.
Thoughts and prayers to the family.
Reminds me of what happened to Laker broadcaster Chick Hearn three years ago. He fell on his brick walkway outside his house in Encino, hitting his head, on a Friday. Two brain operations and three days later, he was gone.
Less and less tolerated. Don't you know that this is now labeled "Crister screed" here.
May the Lord comfort her family. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." Ps 116:15
Second point, be sure to give your attending doctors hell to make sure you get proper care.
Oh no....I'm so sorry!!!
Prayers for their family.
Even better; learn how to do a PLF.
I am so, so, so tempted to say what I think of "faith healers" of Oral Roberts' ilk, but now is not the time.

Dear Mountaineer:
When did you attend ORU? I was there from 96-98. Your "handle" makes me wonder where you're from, as well.
Graduated in '77, and I currently live in WV's northern panhandle. :)
She seemed like a sweet lady. While it's sad to see her go, she had a good long life and spent it serving the Lord. God bless her.
Cool! I'm in South Charleston. I bet ORU's team was the Titans when you attended. :-) When I was a student, we were the Golden Eagles.
