Paul Volcker News Conference Live Thread.
FNC Alert | May 6, 2005

Per Foxnews Alert!

Looks like Kofi Annan may be going down. Foxnews has obtained video tapes of Kofi Annan and Paul Volcker.

There are inconsistencies in Kofi Annan's statements. In other words...he's been caught red handed!

This may have something to do with that FBI guy (represented by Lanny Davis) who resigned from the UN investigation and turned over his papers to the Congressional oversight committee yesterday.

Members of Congress want to know specifically why two senior investigators quit the United Nations committee probing the oil-for-food scandal. Committee chairman Paul Volcker believes it's none of their business.
Thus the stage has been set for a confrontation with Congress that may be quite unsettling for U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan. And indications are that this time he won't emerge smelling like a rose.

Former senior investigator Robert Parton, subpoenaed by the House International Relations Committee, reportedly has turned over boxes of documents. Both Parton and another investigator, Miranda Duncan, have left Mr. Volcker's committee supposedly because it went too easy on Mr. Annan.

Last month Volcker's panel cleared Annan of involvement in awarding a $10 million-a-year inspection contract in Iraq to a Swiss firm that employed Mr. Annan's son, Kojo. Now a source close to Mr. Parton says the investigator wrote two drafts that were far more critical of Annan than what was released by Volcker's panel.

A spokesman for Volcker says he's not seeking diplomatic immunity to protect his panel. But, "to subpoena investigators would harm the integrity of the investigation."

The harm already has been done. It's now in Volcker's own interest to remove any doubts about his committee's work. That is, if he's not hiding anything.

Congress must continue to apply pressure. Silence only furthers suspicions that all is not as it should be on Team Volcker.

sure he was......Annon is expendable, which is why they made the sleaze Secretary in the first place......now, supposedly this wildcat investigator turns up the heat on Annon.......while supposedly badmouthing Volker for being soft on Annon.......thereby diverting attention from the many conflicts of interest that "annon" supposedly "ignored" regarding Volcker in the first place.

You watch... the Leftist UN Apologists will make how he obtained the documents the issue, rather than what's contained in the documents. Just ask Manuel Miranda.

....Parton gave his committee the papers after getting a subpoena last Friday..... Attorney Davis said Parton had been told he would be held in contempt of Congress if he informed the Volcker panel or the United Nations of the subpoena before providing the documents..... Hyde provided no details about the papers' contents but said he hoped there would be no attempt by the Volcker panel or the United Nations to punish Parton.

That is VERY interesting.

With all the recent evidence that the UN has become a tool for legitimizing every tyrant and dictatorship in the world; with all the evidence that UN employees have abused both their power and position for self gain (whether monetarily or sexually); with all the evidence that the organization as a whole is anti-American; why the hell are we involved with the organization at all. I don't support sending Bolton there to fix the situation. I am a cut and run advocate. That should be easy for these UN idiots to understand. If there are any that have a hard time with that concept, just ask the French.

Stop the participation, stop the financing... let us completely divorce ourselves from the entire UN fiasco.

Kojo, who worked for Swiss company, Cotecna in West Africa, was caught on the Cotecna payroll long after the assignment ended. While gumshoeing, Volcker should check in with the Times Online, which has obtained information showing that Kojo was involved in oil deals related to Oil-for-Food. It shouldn’t take too much detective work now that Kojo has admitted that he was involved in negotiations to sell two million barrels of Iraqi oil to a Moroccan company in 2001.

United States Financial Contributions To The United Nations: Fiscal Year 2006 Request
April 2005

Overview Per - United Nations Association of the United States of America

On February 7th, the President submitted to Congress a $2.5 trillion budget request for fiscal year 2006 (October 1, 2005 to September 30, 2006) that includes United States assessed and voluntary contributions to the UN system. Over the remainder of the current fiscal year, congressional committees will consider the details of the request and make recommendations to the House and Senate concerning funding levels to be appropriated later this year. During this period, Administration officials will appear before House and Senate foreign affairs and appropriations committees and subcommittees to defend the budget request for international affairs programs, including assessed and voluntary contributions to the UN system. Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs Kim R. Holmes told Congress in April 2005 testimony, “These accounts fund America’s participation in international organizations and in global partnerships that help make Americans – and people around the world – safer, more prosperous, and free.”

Just think what we could do with $2.5 Trillion. But, instead, we are pouring it down the toilet. Also, can somebody please tell me how the UN helps "make Americans - and people around the world - safer, more prosperous, and free."

That is a load of fecal matter!

"Journalists" on UN Payroll - Unbiased Reporting Impossible

February 15, 2005

Accuracy in Media (AIM) Press Release

Washington, D.C. - Accuracy in Media (AIM) charged today that the United Nations has been paying journalists to promote its message in the U.S. and abroad, and that billionaires George Soros and Ted Turner have been paying for journalism prizes to make pro-U.N. reporters look good.

AIM editor Cliff Kincaid urged the U.N. and any journalists on its payroll to completely come clean by disclosing how much money has changed hands.

In a special report posted on the AIM website http://www.aim.org, Kincaid cited direct evidence of U.N. money going to a past president of the United Nations Correspondents Association (UNCA).

Kincaid said that a key U.N. official has admitted paying other journalists but that she refuses to name names or amounts.

Kincaid also cited financial contributions to the UNCA from organizations associated with billionaires George Soros and Ted Turner.

The money underwrites the awarding of journalism prizes to those covering the U.N.

For merely asking questions about these matters, Kincaid said that he has been personally attacked as being "far-right" and a "U.N. basher."

He previously revealed that Linda Fasulo, U.N. correspondent for NBC News, had taken $26,000 from the pro-U.N. lobby to write a book favorable to the world body and its Secretary-General, Kofi Annan.

"It was right to condemn conservative commentator Armstrong Williams for taking federal money to promote Bush Administration policies," said Kincaid. "We should also condemn the U.N. for hiring and using journalists to spread its propaganda."

Accuracy In Media (AIM) is a non-profit, grassroots citizens watchdog of the news media that critiques botched and bungled news stories and sets the record straight on important issues that have received slanted coverage.

To schedule an interview with AIM Editor Cliff Kincaid, contact Anne Tyrrell at 703-739-5920 or atyrrell@sbpublicaffairs.com

I think that the "contempt of Congress" thing was just a convenient cover. I think Parton WANTED an excuse to have to turn over the goods, and so somebody offered him cover. ("Contempt of Congress" is still meaningless, but it sounds good to the aveage chattering-class ignoramus.)

By the way, I happen to believe there is a definite connection between whats going on with Parton and what's going on with the Bolton hearings. The scumbag Democrats are livid about the undermining of the UN (mainly by its many scandals being exposed), and I also happen to think there's a lot more going on beneath the surface.

Former President Jimmy Carter has been linked with a key figure in the U.N.'s oil-for-food scandal by the group leading the nationwide effort to evict the United Nations from American soil and halt U.S. funding of the U.N.

Howard Kaloogian and Co. are calling for this...

Move America Forward today will call upon Carter to provide a full accounting of his meetings and conversations with Samir Vincent, who yesterday pleaded guilty to participating in numerous illegal activities as part of the U.N. scandal.

"President Carter needs to tell the American people exactly what relationships he had with the individuals involved in the oil-for-food scandal," said Melanie Morgan, co-chairman of Move America Forward.

More highlights from this...

"[Carter's son Chip] and his associates have been particularly vicious in their criticisms of President Bush and his Iraq policy, say Move America Forward officials. According to the Ghana News Agency, Chip Carter said President Bush was "bringing back the ugly politics where other people see America as the enemy."

Um, I think the terrorists have already made it clear America is the enemy.

Chip Carter added, "there has to be a regime change" not in Iraq – but in America so as to bring an end the Bush administration.

Obviously the majority of his fellow Americans don't agree with the young Carter on this...

Carter went on to note that it was the United Nations that was best able to handle the Iraqi question, and not the United States.

Wonder what his basis is for this...

The Carter Center website features op-eds in which Carter criticizes the Bush administration's decision to use military force in Iraq as well as an interview by Carter and his wife in which he claimed military action against Iraq would be a "tragic mistake." Carter argued in a 2002 interview that the situation should be dealt with by the United Nations Security Council through the issuance of new U.N. Resolutions or the enforcement of existing resolutions.

Been there. Done that.

"Obviously Jimmy Carter didn't understand that it was the United Nations resolutions that authorized the use of force, which is why coalition forces took military action against Iraq. Saddam Hussein was not abiding by the U.N.'s resolutions for 12 years, yet Jimmy Carter pretends not to be aware of this fact," said Morgan.

Jimmy Carter and roughly half the population of the United States.

Comments
If you just reread this posting, you'll find that it's pretty funny, if you find this horrible mess we are in funny at all, which I do not.
1) - Majorities do not make a decision correct.
2) - Saying Jimmy Carter does not understand how the UN works shows just how arrogant and stupid the writer is.
3) - Guilty until proven innocent still stands in our country. I'll wait until all of the investigations are complete before I'll condem the man. History tells us a lot from patience.
4) - The war was a huge mistake-if you can get past the pride issue and admit you and the "majority" were wrong.

On the other hand, Jimmy Carter was wrong about Iran (the hostage crisis). Jimmy Carter was wrong about the economy (21% interest rates, 10% unemployment, 7% inflation). Jimmy Carter was wrong about North Korea (we sign treaty, agree no nukes, sneakily develop anyway). Jimmy Carter, like all other leftists, was wrong about Yasser Arafat.

Yep, the involvement of Davis makes me nervous, too. But it is possible that Davis is working on behalf of one Democrat against another Democrat. I foresee a very heated contest for Democrat Presidential nominee in 2008. The gloves are off already.

Kofi is a goner now for sure......and after the fact, he will be laughed at when he tries to say "I'm not the only one".......I think in terms of money, kofi's price was low.....but since he's the Gen Sec, betraying him makes such a loud noise that the real and whole truth of the OFF scandal (MOST of it, anyways) will never be jerked out into the sunlight. Very soon, kofi will be hiding out like the runaway bride, and Volcker and his cronies will quietly be laughing.

You realize 2.5 trill is the entire budget of the United States of America, right? Not just what we give to the UN. Not that it isn't still unspeakably outrageous that the government spends that kind of money every year.

You are correct. It is probably not a good thing to assume that just because someone was a FOB they will automatically be a FOH.

IIRC, Genius Volcker presided over like an 18.00% prime rate or something equally ridiculous.
