I'm hearing that Andy Ramirez' "Friends of the Border Patrol" project is slated to begin in August, but that their may be leadership cadre training days before that. One of the "lessons learned" from the MMP is that it's better to pretrain some folks in media relations, Border Patrol and LE liason, map reading, radio communications etc. Trying to do all that while also absorbing 100s of volunteers at the beginning of the MMP was too much.
But I would recommend that anyone in Socal just get out their maps and drive to the border. There are many areas where you can drive to within a mile of the border and hike in or just take a look around, and get the lay of the land.
