It's unacceptable to me also, but what I support(a documented guest wroker program) gets shouted down with insults, because it doesn't include a new 2,000 mile Berlin like wall and such.
And most of the rhetoric I see from the other side almost borders on the doomsday cultish. America has always been a land of immigrants and has prospered for 229 years, despite the gloom and doom predictions.
Has America been a land of illegal immigrants for 229 years?
I agree, assuming the program were well run.
You have to admit the rhetoric on both sides is over the top. It's the doomsdayers vs. race baiters.
The US should be able to decide who comes in and who doesn't. The current system pits an impotent government vs the good, the bad and the ugly. The problem being we have no way of documenting anyone, good, bad or ugly. It drives peole like me nuts to see illegal aliens, convicted of violent crimes NOT DEPORTED, only to commit more crime down the road. Granted, if the current system is not "fixed" I doubt it will mean the end of our country as we know it...but that is hardly a reason not to fix it.
The real issue is not amenable to sound bites, which is why you guys never can make your point. We are not talking about the "Berlin wall" nor are we arguing about "a nation of immigrants." Nor are these concerns dismissable as "gloom and doom." Try critical thinking instead of cliches, and discover a whole new world.
[[America has always been a land of immigrants and has prospered for 229 years, despite the gloom and doom predictions.]]
Allow me to correct you. We are NOT a nation of immigrants. We are a nation of descendants of immigrants. 90% of Americans were born here but their families may have immigrated here generations ago.
