Art teacher threatens pupil at knifepoint for not knowing colors ( Japan )

KAIMON, Kagoshima -- A teacher at a public junior high school here has come under fire for threatening to slash a student with a paper cutter after he failed to respond quickly enough when asked during class about his favorite color, it was learned Saturday.

The teacher, whose name has not been released, apologized to the student and his parents for his inappropriate guidance immediately after the case became public.

In response to protest from the parents of one of the students, Takashi Fukumoto, the principal of Kaimon Municipal Junior High School questioned the teacher, who admitted to the allegations.

"I did it to speed up the class," the teacher was quoted as saying.

Fukumoto is also apologetic.

"We are sorry about terrifying the children," he said.

The incident occurred during an art class on the morning of April 13. The 39-year-old teacher asked first-year students about colors that they knew.

A boy could not immediately give a reply apparently because many of his classmates had already cited most of the major colors.

The teacher took out a paper cutter and pointed it at the student saying, "I'll slash you if you can't answer."

He also showed the paper cutter to two girls who couldn't answer another question during the same class.

At the school where he had worked until he was transferred to the Kaimon Junior High School in April, the teacher threatened to his students with a ruler if they could not answer questions during his classes. (Mainichi Shimbun, Japan, May 7, 2005)

The teacher has dishonored herself. she should use the paper cutter and commit suicide.

Himself, herself. All that matters is that the teacher does the honorable thing. In my opinion an apology is good enough. But I'm cold callous America. I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't laugh if the teacher committed hairy carey over this.

I'm not even drinking and I'll slurring my words tonight. So in honor of the late great announcer, who often slurred his words due to a different reason, I'm sticking with harey carey.
