I use to be a fan of Every One Loves Raymond, but it got raunchier as the years went by.

Sitcoms in general have gotten VERY raunchy. Some of them are just continuous sex jokes. I guess with all the emphasis on PC and not offending anyone, they had to go to raunchiness to get their laughs. But they're still not funny, they are just stupid.

My favorite review:

"Was Ridley Scott trying to make a medieval epic, or was he trying to remake Kevin Smith’s Dogma?"

More reviews:

"The religious sentiment accumulates into a tower of politically correct Jell-O." -- Andrew Sarris, NEW YORK OBSERVER

"This is the first time a been there, done that mood has permeated a Ridley Scott film." -- Brian Orndorf, FILMJERK.COM

"The movie does what any self-respecting politician would do: sidestep the issues, soft-pedal mortal costs, talk a fat game, and divert your attention away from history with exercises in spectacle and power." -- Michael Atkinson, VILLAGE VOICE

"It's clear that Ridley Scott set out here to make as uncontroversial a film about the Crusades as it's possible to do. " -- Jill Cozzi, MIXED REVIEWS

"A staggeringly lazy, leg-twitchingly dull, unholy mess." -- Phoebe Flowers, SOUTH FLORIDA SUN-SENTINEL

"Could largely be synopsized as the failure of moderate Christians to restrain fanatical Christians from oppressing innocent Muslims, provoking justifiable Muslim retaliation." -- Steven D. Greydanus, DECENT FILMS GUIDE

"The Crusades lasted just over 200 years, which is longer than Kingdom of Heaven, although not by as much as you might hope." -- Bruce Newman, SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS

"The climax features a dandy battle, but getting to it requires sitting through nearly two hours of posturing and pontificating." -- Jeff Strickler, MINNEAPOLIS STAR TRIBUNE

"...an unmitigated disaster from start to finish, offering up a level of sheer dullness that's shocking..." -- David Nusair, REEL FILM REVIEWS

But there is nothing in Islamic history that rivals the terror of the Crusades or the Christian fanaticism of the twelfth century.

Yeah there is. There's 9/11 and fifty years of terrorism in Israel.

And if we don't stop Iran and other terror sponsors from getting the bomb, things could get a lot worse.

Ridley Scott is usually more middle of the road, isn't he? Black Hawk Down, etc?

After reading this thread, I repudiate what I wrote in post#49 and have decided to save my money - you guys win. I'll wait for Wardrobe, and see whether that is less PC.

By the way, I highly recommend the Extended DVDs of Lord of the Rings trilogy - Very much better and more true to Tolkien than the theatre versions. Too bad Bloom apparently got shafted in Kingdom - he did very well in Rings.

I am confident that LWW will not disappoint. The same company as did the Passion grassroots campaign is doing LWW. Lewis' step son is intimately involved.

And I have seen the trailer...it is really fantastic, very moving, awesome music...lots of clashes, swords, ghoulish sidekicks of the witch, just fantastic.

Cinema is a different and inferior medium than books. But this film will do as much justice to the book as possible. I am willing to stake a bet on that.

ps - I have even heard a few quotes from the execs sayng that all they are going to do is do the book...if anyone wants to draw religious conclusions from it, that is their own business. Which is of course the perfect answer.

Orlando Bloom is the only reason that I found it mildly entertaining. But he wasn't good enough to carry the whole load of crap on his shoulders.

I'm somewhat nervous about LW&W. I have no doubt Hollyweird can even screw up C. S. Lewis. If they do it right, though, it will be breathtaking.

Definitely shared that concern. But I think we're gonna be ok.

Who's going to play in this? My Greatkids have
the mulitiple CD's of this that came out years
ago. Child actors (British, I think) are very
good. I even enjoyed the yarn. Can't expect
Harry Potter bashers to be pleased, however!

I haven't been to a theatre for decades. I wait
for the CD to appear at BlockBuster or Walmart!

I don't know who the actors are...but the trailer looks fabulous.

Arent those BBC CD's awesome? My kids listen to them literally every day! We read the series, listen to the CD's, and have watched the BBC movies (which are pretty weak, but for kids, you know, ok...the CD's are audio from the movies incidentally).

Now we get to watch one on the big screen!!
