Ancient tombs of unknown ethnic group discovered in Mazandaran

TEHRAN, May 10 (MNA) -- Archaeologists working at the Laforak Cemetery in Savadkuh of Mazandaran Province recently discovered the remains of three skeletons with dolichocephalic skulls, anthropologist Farzad Foruzanfar announced on Tuesday.

Of the fifteen graves excavated in the 2800-year old cemetery, three were different, in that they contained three skeletons with dolichocephalic (long-headed) skulls which were covered with a layer of earthenware, and their walls were reinforced by earthenware, too, he added.

Experts have surmised that the three people belonged to a non-indigenous nation, since the inhabitants of Mazandaran at that time were a round-headed nation, he added.

Since no other examples of skeletons with dolichocephalic skulls have been found in the region, it is believed that the ethnic group of the three people probably either left the Iranian plateau or immigrated to other regions of Iran.

Archaeologists are still trying to determine the ethnicity of the three people, the fate of their nation, and the reason for the differences in their burial ceremonies.

Archaeologists have discovered several examples of burial customs in Laforak Cemetery, such as interment in a squatting position or lying on one side, and the only difference was seen in the newly discovered corpses, which were buried lying on their backs.

Excavations at the site will have to be carried out at a hurried pace because the cemetery and village of Laforak, as well as eleven other villages, will be devoured by the reservoir of the Alborz Dam when it becomes operational.

Thank you, blam. What a shame that a reservoir wins out.

A quick search on "dolichocephalic skulls" would lead one to believe that these ancient corpses were most likely Jewish, or their predecessor group. That's the most logical conclusion that I could draw. Elongated skulls are also somewhat common among "Teutons" apparently (lots of old, racist stuff still on the web on that one), as well as certain South American tribes such as the Inca, plus certain Asian groups.

Or, this could be an Ananaki grave, LOL.

My thoughts exactly. Melchizedek, the priest who offered Abraham bread and wine, is said to have had an elongated head too.

If you mean about his elongated skull, it's something I read a long time ago, possibly in high school, either a poem or a relgious text. Something about the "of the priesthood of Melchizedek" or "of the line of Melchizedek."

Possibly, it was in the tractate of Valis by Philip K. Dick. Anyway, it always stuck with me and everytime I think of elongated skulls I think of Incas, Egyptians, and Melchizedek. He just turned up in a book I'm reading called Genesis of the Grail Kings by Laurence Gardner.

Thanks Blam. Burial on the side in the fetal position is a very old practice, but I'm not sure what these three burials signify -- contact with Anatolia / the Aegean? Anyway, a smokin' topic.

The prehistoric Indian of America ususally buried their dead in the flex position (on their sides). So when you say old practice, that is not an understatement. lol

dolichocephalic skulls

There was another thread on long skulls maybe a couple years ago. I don't recall where those were found or what age they belonged to.
