Harris should be reminded that the Afghans aren't Arabs, but, unfortunately, a muslim is a muslim.

Mohammad tried, in vain, to divert the pagan Arabs from worshipping manufactured objects.

They simply substituted his revelation, the Koran, for the idols.

That's the religion that's been spread so far and wide.

Any Moslem who is distressed over the idea that a printed copy of the Koran could be desecreted has an obligation to the world to admit his apostasy and hypocrisy and ask his fellow Moslems to kill him.

I'm not holding my breath.

Hey, I'm not either. These guys are comfortable with their little idol.

This sort of thing pops up from time to time, and occasionally will catch on big time. Mao's "Little Red Book" didn't quite cut it the way the Koran did.

Human beings seem to have this need for an idol, and it's terribly difficult to suppress it.

Although I could be wrong, only a desert Arab or Afghan would come up with the idea of clogging up the toilet with a Koran.

We know better than to stick stuff in them.

We actually know how to USE them. I'm not sure what the fuss is about. They probably thought the T bowl was just a soup pot.....

I recall the first time we had Cambodian refugees housed in our apartment building in Arlington.

These guys were NOT FROM CITIES and were a tad primitive. All the stray dogs disappeared, and next thing you know we had people setting fires in the middle of the living room floors.

The social services people got someone in there to teach them about light switches and flush toilets and then it was OK.

In the end I picked up several pieces of embroidery relating the "Creation of the Animals" from some nice old ladies. We also know a young woman whose folks escaped from there who is presently in our Army driving a truck in bandit country in Iraq.

Pray for her safety.

But it is not as a book that Muslims regard the Koran -- that is our first misconception. It is in itself a holy and sacred object...you don't mess with it. It is not to be trampled on, or stuck in a toilet.

Oh yeah?

Well, I had a copy (probably not the complete Koran, but close enough, downloaded off the internet) hanging in the outhouse of my hunting cabin.

It hung there all winter and not one person used it to wipe their..., uh, shoes or anything else with.

I chucked it into the hole two weeks ago after spring cleanup.

Damn shame, can't even get someone to use it as toilet paper.

Can't say as I blame anyone though, I wouldn't the vile document anywhere near my private parts, either.

OUR rule #1: "I am the Lord Thy God; Thou Shalt Not Have Strange gods Before Me." Not much wiggle room there. That Strange god popped up in the Arabian desert about 1500 years ago and it's been a thorn in civilization's side since then.

"These guys were NOT FROM CITIES and were a tad primitive.."

My son-in-law tells me that in Holland, they slaughter their lambs and sheep on outdoor balconies of their apartments, and let the blood run down into the streets. That's also "a tad primitive."

Yes, but only because the local Imams don't want to get busted for slaughtering animals down at the local mosque.

Eventually the Dutch will figure it all out and reimpose the laws that require attendance at the Dutch Reformed Church.

If I have offended anyone, including Karen Armstrong, I sincerely apologize.

LOL!

IIRC, in A History of God she claimed that in its early days the Arab tribes interpreted the Koran the way Mohammed meant them to, as just another parallel revelation from a prophet so that the Arabs could stand alongside the Jews and Christians. Only later, in her telling, did it become a competing faith.

How many Americans will die because the press needs to incite Muslims with the most lurid pictures of Abu Graib (already under investigation by the US military long before the press splashed the pictures across the world; the pictures the perpetrators took before they were being brought to justice, which were released to the press by their lawyers) and now the bogus story about the Koran? How can these people in the press say they care about the men and women who must deal with the Muslims when they are constantly baiting them? They are frauds. They're not concerned with justice for the victims of Abu Graib or the sacrilege of desecrating the Koran. Next week these same secularists will be ranting about the Theocracy Bush has made of America. Why this strange respect for Islam then? Their own goal is to harm our national image and assure we don't win hearts and minds in the Islamic world. They wish to inspire hate for America and Americans.

That faith and that book are the product of the Devil.

So I'm unenlightened. I can only judge the tree by its fruits.
