HENDERSON, NC Some risqué art is creating a stir in Henderson.
A massive sculpture of a woman's legs has some in the Vance County city up in arms. Standing 17 feet tall and weighing 40 tons, the 4-year-old concrete legs are still creating controversy in Henderson.
"It's very offensive," one passerby said.
"It looks like a woman -- a naked woman It's horrible," another said.
To Ricky Pearce, the man who designed and built the giant sculpture, it's simply art.
"I think it's in your mind, and it might be in your heart," he said. "I look at it like is soft and warm. Something good for the neighborhood."
While city and county leaders have received numerous complaints about the statue, they say there is nothing they can do because the art is not violating any zoning ordinances. They call it freedom of expression.
"Several of my neighbors have come by and stopped and said they think its an improvement to the neighborhood," Pearce said.
Inspired by a photo of Marilyn Monroe, Pearce's "legwork" slows traffic and stirs emotions.
"The area that it's in you got churches all around," one neighbor said. "That's something that should just not be there. I don't know what their mind frame was when they did that. It's horrible."
Pearce says beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
"Maybe they are looking at the wrong angle," he said.

A view of the leg sculpture from Chopper 11.
It looks vulgar to me.
What a classless jackass.
If clinton were in that helicopter he might be so moved that he would jump out before he even realized he didn't have a parachute.
Please make note that the "art" "sculpture" is locate right next to a trailer.
True art transcends, not descends.
>>"I think it's in your mind, and it might be in your heart," he said. "I look at it like is soft and warm."<<
Bull****!
Those legs are spread open in the "missionary position." The rank dishonesty of the "artistic" community is so outrageous.
Note the quote - "Several of my neighbors have come by and stopped and said they think its an improvement to the neighborhood," Pearce said."
World's largest pap smear?
Not enough fat. The KlinToon likes 'em fat.
Looks like an ad for a gynecologist. LOL

Fra-gee-lay-
Must be French!
Good grief. That's awful.
Is that a garter on the right leg?
They better hope the Jolly Green Giant doesn't come along.
Haha--after seeing the picture, I can't really disagree with the improving the neighborhood part..
Oh, well, that's what you get when you have a free country. People as tacky as they wanna be.
Not pornographic, but--ewwww.
Wow, their neighborhood must REALLY suck!
I got one of those "Major Awards" for Christmas
Are we sure that isn't the entrance to the William Jefferson Clinton Library and Massage Parlor?
Perhaps the "artist" is hoping to produce some large, bountiful crops by such a merger.
Stop it... You made me laugh (first time today).
Ohhh, that is gonna leave a bruise...
Is that a bush just above and between the legs?
It will be lovely when the pigeons find it.
and that looks like a garter belt on the one closer to the trailer.
Aaawwww, you just made me feel all warm & fuzzy inside...
I feel the same way about cannibalism < / sarc >
Some folks sure spenda lotta time, worrying about somebody else's business.
Put a "Lady Gillette" razor next to it.
What passes for art is astounding.
... the legs are still less massive than those of the junior senator from New York.
Hey, how ya been? LTNS....
Yeah, it's been a while. Things aren't bad. How about you?
Pretty decent. Work keeps me pretty busy these days, and I suppose that's a good thing, huh?
Aw, man...now I've got vodka martini spewed all over my keyboard! That's truly funny...
uh-huh. And some college students in some town got nailed for making a "penis" out of snow. The artist of these "legs" is pulling ours.
I see the trailer: It makes you wonder where billyblythe dragged that five-dollar-bill.
