A dramatic rise in repeat abortions has reinforced fears that women are increasingly having terminations for lifestyle reasons.
One in three abortions is now carried out on women who have had at least one before. London's DAILY MAIL reports on Monday.
Figures from the British Pregnancy Advisory Service suggest that women who become pregnant at university or at the start of their careers see abortion as a means of delaying motherhood.
Women between 20 and 24 have taken over from teenagers as the largest age group to have terminations-while only one in 100 abortions is carried out solely because of a medical risk to the baby.
It was revealed that one woman from London had six abortions in just 12 months!
I would say that 90% are for lifestyle choices....
So sad... THIS is the fruit of the sex-worshiping, contraceptive culture.
But, according to NOW, abortions are going to be "few and far between". Would they lie?
This is no surprise. They call it "birth control."
Abortion should be put back into the State's hand. It would cause people to think about what they are doing.
destroying life is not good and not something to treat as birth control.
Have 11 and get the 12th free?
If there were a contraceptive culture, there wouldn't be so many abortions.
Slut? Why only if that was all. If she was just a slut I could deal with it and mind my own business. See post #6 for my real feelings.
Sorry, bad reasoning. Abortion is needed as "back-up" for contraception.
Britian has very high STD rates which is symptomatic of high partner turnover.
What's the thought process behind this?
Beyond the moral question, there are public policy issues associated with abortion being used as a birth control method. Most of the European countries are experiencing declining populations and a growing influx of immigrants, many from Islamic countries. I would like to see a breakdown, by religious and ethnic groups in the UK, on the use of abortion. While lives are being snuffed out, the seeds of future decline are being sown.
Youre right...that woman needs Jesus.
She obviously has severe mental problems. I mean it. I've known women who had abortions. NONE of them felt good about it. And certainly they are not "OK" with it enough to go through 6! Sounds like this woman is self-destructing via loveless sex.
"one woman from London had six abortions in just 12 months"
Someone else who is too stupid to have reproductive organs.....
The last stats I read stated that only about 4% of all abortions are for rape, incest, and the mother's health combined. This would indicate that roughly 96% are nothing more than post-conception birth control.
You're right. It's not news that women use abortion as a method for birth control. Sick, sick, sick.
Delaying childbearing is a lifestyle choice. Running your life in such a way that you can't be bothered to have an IUD stuck in once, but then have 6 abortions in 12 months, has nothing to do with choice. Women who do this are totally out of control, with their lives running on impulse alone (fueled by plenty of alcohol and drugs, no doubt). I'd hate to think what kind of mothers they'd make.
My question is: If you can afford that many abortions why can't you afford to have your tubes tied? Oh, you want kids some day. Then will you tell your kids about their brothers/sisters that you didn't want?
And not every woman who is raped sees the need to kill a baby.
"...from Islamic countries..."
who do not use contraception. 7, 8, 13 children by age 35 are not uncommon, even here in the US, among such immigrants.
You're looking at this all wrong. Would you WANT offspring from such a woman?
The same thought process that starved Terri Schiavo because she might choke if fed by mouth.
The corresponding figure in the US has been closer to two in five. Repetition of destructive and harmful behavior is characteristic of individuals who have been traumatized by their own aggressive acts.
It is frequently accompanied by deterioration of interpersonal relationships and loss of emotional well-being, including numbing out of normal emotions in general. Often all that remains is bitterness and anger, and externalization of blame.
For most of human history, delaying marriage was "a means of delaying motherhood."
Is it just me, or is this a perfect description of all Democrats since Bush defeated Kerry?
this is if these women can become mothers at all. In my teenage years, I had one abortion, which I regreted after the fact. My parents didn't want me to get one, but I went ahead and did it. Well in the 12 years since then, I have had only 1, 1 pregnancy that has gone to full term and I have a wonderful 7 year old daughter to show for it. I am now expecting again, and I am hoping that I have healed from my mistake. Hubby and I are both praying.
This is not a new trend. When I helped defend a state abortion statute 14 years ago, the data showed that 97 or 98 percent of abortions involved a healthy mother and baby, and a decision made for social reasons, only.
It's easy to rationalize abortion when you don't have a belief system to guide you. Women like these brush off the moral implications of killing your children because they believe thay have no one to answer to. Are they ever wrong.
I am praying with you.
I hope so too dear.
Abortion IS a medical risk to the baby.
Thank you for your prayers!
Thank you for your kind words!
You're right. It is a matter of demographics. In 1950 there were 16 workers for every SS retiree, today it is 3.3 and by 2030 it will be 2 to one. It is an inescapable fact that just won't change overnight. The huge baby boomer cohort will increase the present 45 million people receiving SS checks to over 70 million in just a little over a decade.
If it weren't for immigration, legal and illegal, the US population would be declining like Europe's. The wealthier and more developed a country becomes, the lower the birthrate.
Why the drop after 1960? (in deaths of women from illegal abortions)
The reasons were new and better antibiotics, better surgery and the establishment of intensive care units in hospitals. This was in the face of a rising population. Between 1967 and 1970 sixteen states legalized abortion. In most it was limited, only for rape, incest and severe fetal handicap (life of mother was legal in all states). There were two big exceptions California in 1967, and New York in 1970 allowed abortion on demand. Now look at the chart carefully.
· 25.5% of women deciding to have an abortion want to postpone childbearing
· 21.3% of women cannot afford a baby
· 14.1% of women have a relationship issue or their partner does not want a child
· 12.2% of women are too young (their parents or others object to the pregnancy)
· 10.8% of women feel a child will disrupt their education or career
· 7.9% of women want no (more) children
· 3.3% of women have an abortion due to a risk to fetal health
2.8% of women have an abortion due to a risk to maternal health
So how many womens lives have been saved by abortion?
Only about 3% of abortions since 1972 were reported to be due to a risk to maternal health. A reasonable person would recognize that not all of those cases represent a lethal risk. But lets say they did. That means that nearly 45 million fetuses were butchered to save the lives of about 1.3 million women. Or put another way; 35 babies are killed to save each woman.
Abortion was legal in all 50 states prior to Roe v. Wade in cases of danger to the life of the woman.
You are lucky, relative to what could have happened, and I am happy for you in the blessing of having a daughter. My wife (long before I met her) had an abortion at the insistence of her boyfriend. Her next pregnancy nearly killed her due to the fetus forming in her fallopian tube which was caused by the incomplete evacuation of "parts" from the first abortion. This fetus was highly malformed and necessarily aborted. She has been left unable to conceive another baby.
She was a teenager and didn't know what she was doing and was intentionally mislead by PP of Vermont. PP told her "it's only a blob of tissue" and "the procedure is harmless" and "you can always have a baby later." Being very young and under heavy pressure from her boyfriend she believed them. She is now a committed Christian and is heart broken about what she did and the result.
One abortion can leave a woman permanently sterile.
