McClintock Ping!

I'm going to bite the bullet here. I want to formalize a "McClintock Ping List." Up to now, anyone I have pinged has been on a totally involuntary basis.

Please let me know via freepmail if you want on or off this list.

Maybe it's time to fix the bucket.

Fix the bucket. Redistrict NOW. (And elect Tom Lt.Gov)

Cut out sex education and other liberal indoctrination programs and there'll be enough funds for english, science, math, history, social studies, art, music.

The system of government education in America today remains an utter failure. After 40 years of social engineering by liberals and the current crop of big government Republicans, only a miracle can turn things around.

Very nice editorial. It's so darned reasonable - but perhaps California will embrace its vision anyway. I wish Texas would, too.

Here is hoping that McClintock can continue to build his standing with sensible liberals and moderates in CA so that he can be our next governor.

One local high school principal was bemoaning recently the fact that declining enrollment at his school meant they didn't receive as much ADA (average daily attendance) money from the Feds. The school's fund raising arm (a non profit foundation) has started a campaign to recoup that money from other sources.

I am amazed that no one seems to point out to them the obvious fact that it costs less to educate fewer students. All together now .... DUH!

I like your plan except for one thing. One of the newest grammar schools in my neighborhood has a small atrium and a glass elevator, you know, something like a Hyatt Regency. Be sure the commercial office space you propose to rent has this amenity. I simply don't see how the kids could have a quality learning experience without a glass elevator and atrium.

Finally, we'll hire an $80,000 administrator with a $40,000 secretary because, well, I don't know exactly why, but we always have.

LOL That's actually cheap compared to here with admin costs....

Perhaps. But there's an old saying that you can't fill a broken bucket by pouring more water into it. Maybe it's time to fix the bucket.

If you poor it in fast enough, you can. Of course, it doesn't stay full very long.

"Across California, children are bringing home notes warning of dire consequences if Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's scorched-earth budget is approved"

First, how does the union get the right to send notes home to anyone? Isn't this against the law on several levels?

Lastly, I think Tom makes some good points and I think what he says is worthy of discussion. I do believe his behavior during the last Gov. election does exclude him from any consideration for a job in Government where the people have to elect him. I think he betrayed us at our expense last election.

No Diversity Coordinator.

No "Health Department" to authorize abortions.

No one to administer recycling.

How can this be? Is this man mad? What's he trying to do - educate the kids or something? No, Mr. McClintock needs to back to the cave from where he came. (/sarcasm)

Bump. Do the math. Works every time.

The school administrators get fat on these scare tactics.

Simple ask them how much the class room and teacher costs and where does the rest go?

A large part of the problem, and I am sorry to say it has been replicated in miniature on this thread, is that the level of political discussion itself has been devalued over the years.

Many years ago, one could honestly conduct a political debate and use math as a tool to illustrate the consequences of decisions in dollars and cents.

Now, there is no such discussion, and the lack of such discussion is perhaps helped by the mainstream media, which glorifies emotionalism over logic.

Nothing is wrong with McClintock or his message.

The problem is communication and educating the voting public, which has been dumbed down to vote with anything but their brains.

And by the way, this problem is self perpetuating in the sense that most public school teachers, administrators, and Ed School profs have math phobia and pass it down to young students in elementary school. By junior high, those students' attitudes are set, and unfortunately it may be that a majority of people in the state have gone through the public school system and are now cast in this mold. They join what is probably a minority of older folks who should know better but don't, and also let their emotions dictate their decisions. No doubt, it's something both major parties and the media are aware of and don't hesitate to use to their own advantage when it serves their interests.
