Remember Michael Crook - the guy with the reprehensible "Forsake The Troops" website?
It is being reported on his blog that he was killed last night.
http://www.michaelcrook.com/mikesweblog/?q=node/10
I am a member of Michael Crook's family...we do not have the passwords needed to update this website, but he did make me an account on this blog.
As it mentions on the Troops site, today at 6:19pm EST, Michael Crook died at an area hospital as a result of head injuries sustained from an assault by people upset with his website.
Michael died with his wife, and baby present. He was 27. The assaulters are in custody.
We ask for privacy at this time.
I've found no independent confirmation of this yet . . .
Shouldn't be too hard to verify, I'm sure his local paper would have mention of it.
Contact information has been disabled here at this site. Life is too short to listen to people bitch and whine about how offended they are, or how I've hurt their feelings-- frankly, I don't care.
Maybe you shoulda cared, huh?
I googled Michael Crook and Michael crook dead.
I got nuthin.
Somebody held him accountable for his actions huh?
Interesting.
My bull-oney radar is up and running.
It sound's like he's just trying to get more attention. Or hackers just having a good time... We'll know soon enough.
Ah, but will we care?
A traitor meets a traitor's end.
"On Monday evening, the webmaster of Forsake The Troops was brutally assaulted by two men, thought to be members of the military, in response to their opinions about this website. Mr. Crook had been the target of numerous death threats and trespassers at his residence. All of these threats were saved and have been turned over to the authorities.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE:
'At 6:19pm Eastern time, Michael Crook died of his injuries, after being rushed by ambulance to the leading hospital in the area for head trauma. The two men who allegedly assaulted him are currently in the custody of police. Mr. Crook died with his wife and infant daughter present.'It is therefore the decision of his family, and associates that Forsake The Troops goes offline, to prevent further incidents of violence and threats against his family. Therefore, this domain will permanantly go offline at around 5pm Eastern time, on Tuesday, May 17th, 2005.

If true, it's no loss. But I highly doubt it's true.
Gee, HE wanted the troops dead. I guess the feeling was mutual.
And I won't believe the "killers" military until arrests are made. It was just as likely his wife's boyfriend (how's that for an unfounded accusation??).
For all we know, Crook has decided to use a ruse to close down his site, change his name and move to a town where nobody knows what an assh*le he is, without getting called a wuss by his buddies on the left.
"Local paper," are you kidding? This is the sort of story the media craves. It'll bump Michael Jackson, if it's true.
Dan
I'm really not in favor of killing anyone but this guy sounds truly reprenhensible.
This is a story they would like to trumpet from the rooftops.
Found this - remember him?
"This is not the first time Crook has outraged a community. In January Crook found a soldier's digital camera during a Philadelphia Eagles football game. Crook offered to return the camera to the Army specialist, but only if he was paid a thousand dollars."
Seems like more leftist shenanigans to me.
"You can post anything you want on a website. This is hardly confirmation."
I never said it was confirmation....
I remember that story. The guy is an assclown.
Maybe Newsweak will report it. They only need an anonymous source.
Somebody better hurry and set up a fundraiser at the DU to support his family.
What do you base that on?
Apparently, he was (briefly) a member of RightNation.US and stalked someone there.
He's also the guy who refused to return a soldier's camera after the soldier lost it while on leave over Christmas break from Afghanistan. Crook wanted $1000. Luckily, it turned out that the camera Crook found did NOT belong to the soldier.
And, finally, the nutcase apparently TRIED to get into the military and was REJECTED. He wrote the following letter to Press of Atlantic City on Friday, June 11, 1999. It was published on his old website, michaelcrook.com:
To my dismay, after a mere two weeks at Fort Benning, despite the fact that I passed every test required to ship to a basic training unit, I was told I was medically unfit for training. On May 7, a month after I left, I walked back into the Philadelphia airport and happily into the waiting arms of my girlfriend, but on my way to being out of the Army.
To this day, I am fighting to get back in, through a congressional inquiry and any existing appeals processes. Granted, it has only been a little more than a month since I've been out, but it feels like an eternity.
My reason for sharing this is simple. It's apparant that too many people are taking military service for granted.
The various branches of the military must practically bribe people to join in the form of sign-up bonuses (mine was $3,000, but I'm being quite honest when I saw that didn't cross my mind when I made the phone call), assistance with college money, and other benefits. These things are all well and good, but they are not good reasons to join the military.
hether it be the Army, Marines, Navy, the Air Force, or the Coast Guard, our country wouldn't be where it is today without the valuable service of the countless men and women who have served.
Many people in Southern New Jersey and elsewhere don't stop and think about the pride that goes along with serving.
I can't describe the pride that I feel every time I see the flag being raised. I felt it a privilege to salute while the flag was being retired at dusk. I can feel the mutual pride and respect when I salute an officer or observe a salute being rendered.
Every time I hear the national anthem or the Lee Greenwood song "God Bless the USA", I feel pride in my heart.
At the same time, I feel sadness, because I know I'm not on the training field finishing my basic training as I should be. I feel jealousy fill up within me every time I pass a serviceperson in the mall or elsewhere. In a few cases, I've stopped and spoken briefly with them and reminded them how privileged they are to be serving out country.
And that is what people should think about when they sign up for the military. It's not just about the pay, the benefits, and the "perks". It's mainly about defending our country and making sure our freedom stays intact.
"Freedom isn't free" may be a cliche, but it is very true. Many people, men and women, have died to ensure that we can listen to the music that we do, say whatever we want, and have all the various freedoms that we exercise practically every day and take for granted.
Perhaps in November when we observe Veterans Day, and when next May brings Memorial Day, we can think beyond the day off of work and school and remember not only the people who have died in service to our country, but also the countless others who voluntarily leave behind their loved ones to serve in the military.
Hat tip to GI Jane at RightNation.US for all of the info.
After all of this, I'm doubting the guy is even dead. I'm guessing he just wants more attention.
My BS meter is pegged. I'll believe this when I see it.
Dont think of him as dead, but on vacation in a very very hot place!!
Yeah, this is my thought.
I won't speak ill of the dead but if he were alive, I would say he was a PWE.
I'm guessing someone shows up later claiming to be a close family member and cusses us out
Bump to follow.
Lack of verification, obvious troll bait, inflamed story, etc etc etc.....
Bump for later reading - I want to see how it ends.
Have you read the posters history?
So much for free speech. Are you a Blackshirt or a Brownshirt?
Ya know, that poster has been around longer than you. How do we know YOU are not a troll, and just going around saying what you think we expect you to say, then trying to bash everybody else as a troll?
Why don't you chill on the troll-calling unless you are a bit more certain than in this case. You and the people who do the same sort of crap are really making FR a difficult place to enjoy and have certainly turned a lot of people off of FR.
Good work, troll. Sucks to be called a troll, doesn't it? So I retract my statement, apologize and wish you a great day!
And by the way.. nice DU tactics painting "people like you ruin blah blah blah..."
I was commenting on the post in ·3. If this a++hole doesn't care what people think then why should I?
And you can take take your blackshirt brownshirt bullshit and stuff it.
The way I see it, there is one less traitor in America.
I know it's harsh, but we are at war, and he is/was a domestic enemy.
In a healthier time, Crook would be in a cell awaiting execution for treason.
Free speech is one thing. Sedition and active attempts to destroy a war effort is another.
Congratulations on your 19 years! I just got 2. Check my profile.
The appearance of that troll is nearly a certainty.
I don't believe it. It smells like BS.
I think he got tired or intimidated and decided to fake his own e-death.
Kinda amazing how short it really is when one is a traitor.
Hmmm. Good point.
