And if they flash you the victory sign with two fingers?
("You look like number two to me, if you know what I mean.")
I HATE Pepsi. I have always been a COKE fan myself!
She criticizes the country she is a guest in by noting how its citizens are known for criticizing countries they are guests in.
She can kiss my big American ass.
I guess my Upsetometer is a little skewed these days, what with the American Media conspiring to defeat us in Iraq.
From the text: "Unfortunately, I think this is how the rest of the world looks at the U.S. right now. Not as part of the hand giving strength and purpose to the rest of the fingers but, instead, scratching our nose and sending a far different signal."
New Criterion: "There follows the anecdote about the American businessmen making fun of the primitive lavatory facilities in their hotel. "And we wonder," Ms. Nooyi said, "why the world views many Americans as boorish and culturally insensitive."
She can say what she likes but I'm not going to sponsor yet another company that boosts this kind of thing. If you don't think this is yet another attack on our foreign policy, fine. But I think it's pretty clear and am tired of it.
Pepsi initially declined to post the text for fear it would be "misconstrued". Tells me volumes.
One word description: lame.
What is?
Do real men use the word "icky"? (just kidding)
I kinda like being the country that gives France, Germany, Iran, North Korea, et al, the finger.
Where are my boots? She's slinging it kinda deep. She's obviously never understood the expression "You can't fool all of the people all of the time". This truly sounds like a teenagers' cover story when they get caught doing something they shouldn't have done. The arrogance it takes to assume you can pull this one off is unbelievable.
And I'm just so sick of people lecturing us with obvious and insulting little nuggets of canned wisdom. As if the American graduates of a business school wouldn't recognize the need to be gracious guests without her smarmy condescending upbraiding.
I'm cranky.
It was stupid analogy and you would think that a head of a major corporation would be able to put together a commencement speech that would not offend either the right or the left.
Nooyi was not taken out of context. Meant every word. America is a boorish symbol to the rest of the world.
Homer should now respond, "Why yes, my good man. That is a much better choice than a stinking Pepsi".
Well, we now know how to tell Pepsi they're "number 1" in our book, don't we?!
Your post sounds like a fine email to be sent to Pepsico.
Whether its French, English or a host of other languages you speak, the truth is I wish more of us in the U.S. spoke a foreign language....
Gwethalyn Graham, Canadian journalist and novelist, was a little more tightly focused in her opinion and a bit political. She said, To speak a second language is a lesson in humility. There is no reason why that lesson should be confined to French Canadians....
As a woman and a woman of color diversity is a topic that is very near and dear to my heart. This isnt just because Im of Indian origin or because Im a woman.
No, this is one of my favorite subjects, because diversity is one of those rare things in life that is a universal good. There is no downside.
There is no downside to ensuring equal opportunity, or a level playing field.
The so-called apology/explanation/what have you. What the hey, Pepsico is just another Noo Yawk metro area corporation (I am dumping on Noo Yawk business a lot lately. I'm after one NYC corp for liquidated damages and non-payment).

Did you know you can fold your middle finger under your palm, second segment from knuckle down flat on a table and the ring finger is almost paralyzed, can't be lifted?
Europe must be that finger.
