Prime Minister of Egypt Ahmed Nazif and British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw met separately with President Bush at the White House.

A grenade thrown toward President Bush in the former Soviet republic of Georgia was live, but failed to explode because of a malfunction, the FBI said today.

QUOTE: (Yahoo caption quote) "President Bush on May 18 2005 made clear to the heads of the often competing U.S. spy agencies that his new top intelligence adviser [John Negroponte] was in charge of restructuring and coordinating their departments. 'I've relied on his candid judgment to help solve complicated problems,' Bush said at a ceremonial swearing-in of John Negroponte as the country's first director of national intelligence."

Fom last night's RNC speech: Our most important duty is to protect the American people from these cold-blooded killers. And when the American President speaks, he must mean what he says. ... I do not need a poll or a focus group to tell me where I need to lead this country. In the midst of the Civil War, the first Republican President, Abraham Lincoln said, "As our case is new, so we must think anew and act anew." And we continue that proud tradition today ...

Our tax code is out of date. It is incoherent. ... So I've appointed a bipartisan panel to examine the code from top to bottom. And when their recommendations are delivered, we're going to work together to put together a tax code that is pro-growth, pro-entrepreneur, easy to understand and fair to all.

We have a duty for future generations. We have a duty to leave this world more peaceful. We have a duty to reform the institutions that are old and tired. ... the actions that we take today will shape the course of events for the next half-century. We've set big goals, and they're not always easy to achieve. ... if they're easy, somebody else would have already done it. But we're going to continue to be the party of idealism and reform. And we'll continue to lead, no matter how tough the challenge.

Prime Minister of Egypt Ahmed Nazif answer questions as he leaves the White House

Please forgive any errata in posting, as the thunderstorm is taking away my proofing time. Thanks to baseballmom for alerting me to this thread: The Past and Future of American Grand Strategy [Bush critic gets it].

"A decision by Federal Reserve Governor Edward Gramlich to step down from his post in August underscores the rare degree to which President Bush will have a hand in molding the U.S. central bank. Bush has already named five of the seven members of the Fed's Washington-based board, although one of them, Vice Chairman Roger Ferguson, was initially chosen by President Bill Clinton. Wonderful, Gretchen. Glad they arrived and that you got them in out of the thunderstorm. I hope you and your charge get many hours of pleasure out of them.

Snugs, can't believe you are going to be in charge tomorrow! WooHoo!! I expect plenty of fan-requiring Cheney and Bush pics!

Bill Frist did a good job today, as did Sessions, Inhofe, Allen of course (Mr. Dependable), and some others. Hold the line on this, Pubbies, don't let the RINOs cave in, get Ms. Owen confirmed!
