Just how fat are we?

Oops, make that 25,814 — not 400,000.

In March 2004, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said 400,000 Americans die each year due to obesity-related problems. But wait. Citing flawed data, four months ago the CDC revised the number down to 365,000. But now, another branch of the CDC says the first branch — the CDC's Division of Adult and Community Health — got it wrong. The CDC's National Center for Health Statistics says, no, the real figure is 111,909. And after you deduct the beneficial effects of being moderately overweight, the figure declines to 25,814!

That's classic.

Liberal obsession with the body is getting old. What's next? Do American have properly toned skin?

How many ways are there to say "shallow"? Really, really shallow.

The "experts" keep redefining illnesses depending on what new drug is coming out.

So far, "ideal" blood pressure standards have been lowered, "ideal" blood sugar levels have been lowered, and "ideal" weight has been lowered. Of course, there are drugs and/or surgery to "fix" these conditions.

food Mafioso; cigarette Nazis; big mac bouncers - pure condescension.

Realistically, low fat diets, not walking enough but riding everywhere in our fancy cars, eating portions enough for two - all contribute to our obesity.

Everything in moderation is a very good thing.

So my "ideal weight" is suppose to be 103. This when I was in my 20s.

Fat chance of that ever happening.

Feed a rat a little MSG and it becomes fat and diabetic. Any correlation?

You forgot the redefinition of death so the drugs could be paid for.

I do not doubt that but I do not meet many fat Chinese people.

Lots of Asians are diabetic. But I think it's only put in their American cuisine.

I'm picturing Linda as someone who has had numerous plastic surgeries (implants & duck lips) and has a bulemic daughter. What a shrew!

actually the switch from cane sugar to corn sweetner has had a huge effect also, the body reacts totaly different to it and stores it almost immediatly.

yes, you're right there....5/8 226 lbs. Heart rate and blood pressure awfully good then! Walking upstairs carrying tile must be a good cardio workout.

And corn syrup also seems to be in almost everything.

Another ingredient that is interesting is the flavor inhancer yeast extract. It is possible to create glutamic acid from it which is similiar to MSG. This is another food modifier found in almost everything that is packaged.
