ACLU Wants Jail For Public School Teachers, Principal

NEW ORLEANS -- The American Civil Liberties Union has asked a federal judge to jail public school teachers and administrators for allegedly violating a court-imposed ban on school prayers.

It's the fourth time the ACLU has told Judge Ginger Berrigan that officials in Louisiana's Tangipahoa Parish are flouting her prayer ban.

This time, the ACLU said an elementary school teacher repeatedly held prayers in her fourth-grade class, encouraged students to bring their Bibles to school, held Bible studies in the school cafeteria and admonished students who didn't show up.

In addition, the ACLU cited a prayer "in Jesus' name" that was recently given over a high school's public address system while the principal sat by silently.

The ACLU said school officials' violation of the prayer ban "must result in their removal from society."

Did you know that every time the freaks at the ACLU file a case against American traditions your tax dollars pay their exorbitant attorney fees.

I believe the communists at ACLU to be more of an enemy to America than Osama and al Queida.

People are perfectly capable of deciding for themselves when or when its not appropriate to pray. They don't need the ACLU and federal judges making that decision for them.

George Orwell wrote that in Big Brother's nation, those who went against the Party would be erased from history. Hence the term "Orwellian." The ACLU wants the government to decide who can or cannot work as a public servant on account of their religious beliefs.

i see no problem with a prayer and the pledge of allegiance to start the day.

Did it everyday that I spent in public school.

The problem here is the federal court told them not to do so.

Probably an activist make up the law as you go judge.

By the way what color is your Kool Aid, Grape.

It's a protent FUR SHUR.

It is getting to the point where I want to strangle any ACLU freako lawyer I see. And the absolute worst thing about their lawsuits is that they can sue time after time after time and then the TAXPAYERS have to foot the damned bill!

Public school teachers have no business leading their students in prayer, especially after a federal court has repeatedly told them not to do so.

Children attend public schools to be educated, not indoctrinated with religious dogma.

If you want government sanctioned religion I suggest a one-way ticket to Iran.

I try to be a good Christian and when I pray I pray in the name a Jesus but I couldn't agree with you more.

If I had my choice I would ensure that the Pledge of Allegiance is recited every morning and that a moment of silence is offered after the pledge.

That's ultimately what it's going to take to defeat the ACLU: massive noncompliance. All the court orders and injunctions and all the rest of that bureaucratic arsenal are worthless if right-thinking citizens just go ahead and celebrate their religion anyway.

Hey, it worked for Gandhi.

No one is forcing you to pray. Just keep seated. Unlawful orders, regardless if from a superior officer or from the courts hold no power in the law.
What part of the 1st Amendment in the "Bill Of Rights" do you not understand? Why do you think they are called "Bill Of Rights"? I guess you also believe I do not have "The right to bear arms".

Do they really want a Christian jihad launched against them.

Do you mean a Crusade? Time was, not so long ago, most people never heard of a jihad, didn't know what it meant.

Only a matter of time until the Anti Christian Litigation Unit holds their first public book burning.

Not only should the ACLU lawyers face charges but also the writers of this story should . This only raises questions and divisions , read the diverse posts. There are no details that support either side in this . Who said the prayer over the intercom? ...a student? Are the Bible studies being held after school during free time ? Whats wrong with that? How can you hold a Bible study without a Bible? The one detail inserted in the story that really should perk up the interest of every freedom lover is the threat to " remove from society "

I still think we should send the boyscouts into the next ACLU lawyers meeting armed with stick and whips.

Should make one heck of a "Film @ 11".
