Presidential visit strains resources
Rochester DEMOCRAT & Chronicle | 5/20/05 | Patrick Flanigan

Posted on 05/20/2005 5:55:33 AM PDT by Behind Liberal Lines

ROCHESTER--Today's Reochester Democrat and Chronicle(which cannot be reposted here thanks to the cretins at Gannett news), in anticipation of a rumored visit by President Bush to the area, carries an article such a visit will be "a logistical nightmare that draws on a community's scarce public-safety resources, requires hours of preparation and generates complaints from irate citizens who get caught in traffic jams."

The article also warns readers of "traffic jams and roadblocks," as well as "at least some delays" at airports.

The article also points out that local "coffers [will] suffer" because of increased overtime during the visit.

To be fair, the twenty-one paragraph story does contain four sentences that admit that some officials consider such visits "enjoyable."

However, even then, the paper chooses to quote officials who say it is enjoyable despite the inconvenience to the police and other emergency officials.

No word from Gannett on whether they plan to write a similar story each time that former First Lady (and current US Senator) Hillary Clinton and her husband come to town.

At least Bush is punctual.

Unlike those trailer trash Clintoons.

The Bush associated imagery shifts from pink elephants to white elephants. I guess that's SOME progress. ;0)

Given that the media paints the world black during pubbie admins, and given that "everyman" doesn't pay much attention to astrophysics; isn't the left's strategy of owning the media likely to succeed in convincing "everyman" that the only way to get the sun back is to vote left?

This is probably the first time in a long time these security people get off their duff to do something, besides get donuts. Where's Rochester anyway?

Actually, Rochester Police are quite busy, due to its high crime rate...which I'm sure has nothing to do with the fact that they have something like a 3-1 democrat vs republican ratio in local politics.

Well, I am a Republican through and through. Still, at the risk of sounding out-of-touch, I hate it when Bush comes to town, and not because the local police have to prepare for it. We pay them to do such things, and I haven't ever heard them complain about it.

I hate it when the president comes to town regardless of his party affiliation. I live in South Minneapolis. When any president comes to town they close roads near my house. They do, quite literally, disrupt life for at least the brief time that the caravan (or decoy caravan) gets through my neighborhood. I never considered it a great honor to go line the freeway and watch a limo pass.

Is that sufficiently curmudgeonly?

Might be because western NY has given the vast majority of it's resources to union benefits, free healthcare, Medicaid, Medicare, illegal immigrants, "section 8" housing, "feel good" liberal failures, being anti-business, welfare, public assistance, but not one dime goes to actually doing the "people's business".

Right, the President should stay in the WH and not inconvenience the rest of us. Who the hell does he think he is? Is that sarcastic enough?

I just read the front page article in todays D&C and was surprised as all that were interviewed were excited that he was coming to Greece. Thats where i grew up. I hope to see Air Force one fly over where i work. I see all the planes coming into Rochester from here.

I canceled the local Gannet Paper, "The Daily Olympian," after putting up with their left wing crap for years. Also the local editor refused to run any version of a letter to the editor I wrote about how the kids we spending to much time on environmental stuff in their Math and Science classes, "While failing in Math and Science," in school, culminating in a chance to participate in a pretend Green Congress at the Local ultra green college, Evergreen College I never renewed. All you need to know regarding The Gannet News Service is in the Book The Chain Gang. A great Book Explaining the downward spiral of modern print news service, although, he doesn't get into the political correctness enough you come to understand why the Print news business is going down the toilet when bought out by a big business and real reporting is replaced by the profit motive.

I only read Gannett papers online, for similar reasons.
