COUPEVILLE, Wash. -- The father of slain actress Sharon Tate has died of congestive heart failure at a convalescent home in Coupeville at 82. Paul Tate died Wednesday. The news of his death was announced Sunday by a nephew, Ron Cobb, in Los Angeles.

Sharon Tate and four others were slain at her Beverly Hills estate on August 9, 1969, by followers of Charles Manson. She was married to director Roman Polanski and was eight months pregnant at the time.

Manson was later convicted of masterminding the murders, carried out by his disciples in a killing spree that claimed two additional victims.

Paul Tate was an army intelligence officer who launched his own investigation into his daughter's murder when he felt Los Angeles police were slow to find the killers. He retired from the military soon after his daughter's death.

Paul Tate outlived two of his three daughters. His wife Dorris died of cancer in 1992 and another daughter, Patty, died of breast cancer in 2000. He is survived by his youngest daughter, Debra, of Riverside, Calif.

Can't imagine what this man went through losing a daughter and unborn grandchild in that manner. R.I.P.

I did not know this. Is he the one who identified Charles Manson?

Finding out his daughter married a pedophile rapist probably wasn’t a picnic either.

RIP.

Rest in peace.

With military erectness, Sharon’s father took the stand and was sworn. Though forty-six, he looked younger, and sported a well-trimmed beard. Before entering the courtroom, he had been thoroughly searched, it being rumored that he had vowed to kill Manson. Even though he glanced only briefly at the defendants, and exhibited no discernible reaction, the bailiffs watched him every minute he was in the courtroom.

In Polanski's defense, he was not yet a pedophile rapist when his wife and unborn child were brutally murdered my Manson's psychopathic followers.

Nor even earlier when his parents and siblings perished in the Nazi death camps. That is one star-crossed lfe.

I was thinking the same thing about Roman Polanski even though he's revered by the perverts in H'weirdo. He escaped to avoid prosecution in the US.

He's revered by movie lovers. I don't have to like him personally to love his best movies.

Give Charlie to me...for about ten minutes. I'll rip the insanity from him. I'll get him to admit that he was a bullying coward, who decided his quest for power and influence, was simply a plea for recognition from a weak individual.

Hell....give me just five minutes.

I once saw on Court TV Debra testify at Leslie Van Houten's parole hearing. She looked like Sharon Tate risen from the grave.

Before I knew who she was, I first wondered, "But Sharon Tate didn't have a daughter !"

Oh, so let's let him go?

Um, I don't think so.

And don't start me on WWII, all of my relatives were in the war.

I don't think so. Check this out:

"It was Nov. 24, 1969, when a motorcyclist rode up to my Los Angeles studio. He showed panic and fear, told me that he had just come from the Spahn Ranch and to save his own life, he would share with me how Manson and his gang had killed Sharon Tate and her associates. But I was to keep his confidence. How would I advise him? Who could he trust?

That evening I announced on my television report that I would reveal who had committed the Tate murders. All hell broke loose! The Los Angeles Police Department, the Sheriff's Department, the District Attorney's office all descended upon me, pleading that I hold back on the scoop – that it would jeopardize their investigation.

I did hold back on the story until Dec. 21, but by doing so and putting their wishes above my own ambitions, every other news operation in town was able to scoop my own story. "

Here's more:

" The (official) investigation was hindered by several factors, including crime scene errors, police rivalry, and overlooked clues. One of the killers had left a bloody fingerprint on the push button that opened the electronic gate to the Tate property, but it was obliterated when an officer pushed the button to go out the gate. The police technician who took blood samples did not test many of them for subtypes, causing a problem when attempting to re-create the murders. Also, a .22 pistol used in the Tate murders was found by a young boy on September 1 and turned over to the police. But it was December 16, three and a half months later, before the detectives realized what they had.

More crucial was the rivalry factor. Separate teams of LAPD detectives investigated each of the crimes. The Tate case was handled by long-time veterans, while a younger, better-educated group dealt with the LaBiancas. The teams pursued separate paths and failed to communicate with each other. Cooperation between the two would likely have turned up the culprits much sooner. Neither group bothered to check with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office until two months had gone by.

The LaBianca detectives came up with a list of eleven suspects, including one Charles Manson. When they finally consulted the sheriff’s investigators, they discovered a murder being worked by the county involved multiple stab wounds and "POLITICAL PIGGY" written on the wall in blood. The deputies had recently raided an isolated ranch and arrested twenty-four members of a hippie cult called the Manson Family. It was the first big break in the case. "

If you're saying that Manson is not insane, I agree with you.

He knew precisely what he was doing, and his young followers knew exactly what they were doing as well.

What is sickening is that one of his followers will most likely be paroled and breathe free again before they die.

And that really shouldn't happen.

****

Seems he had a very tragic life the last 30 or 40 years. Gotta believe the next one will be a lot better.

Rest in Peace, Col. Tate. And condolences to Debra and the surviving family members.

One of the Manson girls, Linda Kasabian, turned state's evidence, and has never spent one day in jail for being the lookout/driver for boh the Tate and the LaBianca murders. Originally from NH, she returned here, and used to waitress at a restaurant in Milford. She also used to hang out in the woods in Litchfield with her pals, building bonfires and smokin' dope. At one point, she moved to the Pacific northwest, but returned again to NH.

Linda Kasabian was a messed up druggie. But one whose moral compass hadn't completely been fried by LSD.

If you are doing LSD all the time you'd be surprised what seems perfectly reasonable to you.

It breaks my heart to hear this wonderful man spent his last days in a nursing home. I wish I had the ability then to visit him and tell him exactly how much respect and love I have for his family. Happy Birthday Miss Sharon Marie Tate, the world still loves you. Even it’s younger generation which I’m a part of. You are a great actress and they cheated us out of it.
