Yeah? What's the compromise between abusing the rules and playing by them? Only abusing them when you're really, really, really upset?

A compromise is a republican sell out.

This "compromise" had better not mean continued filibustering in the future. What I'm hoping is that the Dems realized they would lose if they attempted to filibuster Owen and, having realized this, decided looking (late last week) for a way to be able to say they "reached compromise" rather than "got horsewhipped."

I can't believe it! All this time we have been saying no compromise! I will definitely be tuning in!
I am watching this very closely and praying very hard.
To: pogo101
Maybe the "compromise" is that they will let Owen get approved, and then filibuster then next nominee.

To compromise with the democrats means they will betray your good will at election time as they did President Bush's father over taxes.

Hopefully, it is nothing more than they all agree to vote for cloture and proceed under regular order to vote on the Owen nomination, thereby preserving the fiction that they can filibuster later on if they so choose. If it is something we give up that should not be given up, if we snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, the Repubs will rue the day.
To: RobFromGa
Unless the Dems stand down on this and all other future judicial filibusters, I don't see how this can be a "win" for the GOP. They should not allow the Dems the ability to filibuster future nominations, especially Supreme Ct. nominations.
To: Always Right
Yeah with real statesmen like Howard Dean representing the democrats I can see how compromise would be the right call here.

Republican and Democrat Senators will come together and explain, they say that there will be votes on "as many current nominees as possible" and the filibuster will only be used in "extraordinary" cases.
If they agree to not go nuclear in the future, they are going to enrage the base.

Here's my compromise: Instead of all 45 Demagogic Party senators having to kiss Frist's backside on the steps of the Capitol, we'll allow Harry Reid alone to do it on their behalf. Really now, what kind of 'compromise' do you make between upholding 214 years of Senate tradition and rules vs. allowing the further trashing of said tradition and rules? The demagogues will try to limit the number of judicial careers and reputations they trash, so long as they can have an absolute veto on all possible Bush nominations to the USSC? Yeah, that's a very reasonable compromise.....

So let me get this straight.
Instead of a minority of 41 making the decisions we're going to have a minority of 12 making the decisions.
Folks, that's moving in the wrong direction.

I'm watching it. If the Pubbies cave they have lost access to my wallet. We'll see.
