WASHINGTON--DNC Chair Howard Dean, appearing on "Meet the Press" told hold host Tim Russert that a Socialist "is bascially a liberal Democrat."
Dean, while discussing the race to replace outgoing Vermont Senator Jim Jeffords, insisted to Russert that potential candidate Bernie Sanders, an admitted socialist, was no different than the liberal wing of his own party:
Dean: Well, that's what he says. He's really a populist. Russert: But is there room in the Democratic Party for a socialist? Dean: Well, first of all, he's not a socialist, really. Russert: ...he wrote in his book: "Outsider in the House, I am a Democratic socialist." Dean: Well, a Democratic socialist--all right, we're talking about words here. And Bernie can call himself anything he wants. He is basically a liberal DemocratRussert: ...there's a vacancy for the United States Senate about to occur. Bernie Sanders, the congressman from Vermont, wants to run for that seat. He is a self-described avowed socialist.

As the always-insightful James Taranto, at the Wall St. Journal, observes:
[I]f, as Dean claims, a socialist "is basically a liberal Democrat," then a liberal Democrat is basically a socialist. Which... is something you'd expect to hear from a right-wing kook, not the Democratic chairman.
At least you have to give Dean points for honesty. He finally "admitted" something we "right wing kooks" have been telling the public for half a century.

Let us pray that each and every day Howard Dean opens his mouth and that words are emitted into the atmosphere.

I don't know how Karl Rove managed to snooker the Dems into choosing Dean but I'm certainly glad that he did. I keep waiting for the hinge on his head to pop open revealing the little guys from Planet Zoob driving.
Dean is giving ammo, I expect the GOP to use it.
The more Dean talks the more I like his selection as DNC Chair. Thaks for the new tagline Howie!
Dean also said in that interview that the difference between Dems and Repubs is "Dems care children going to sleep at night hungry".
I guess that means Repubs don't care about starving children now too.
He's such a relic from the 60's, but the more he speaks the better for rational people.

Karl Rove is apparently like Darth Vader to George Bush's Emperor Palpatine, the way he uses his evil mind powers to control everyone.
Between snookering CBS and Newsweek to run fake news stories so he can discredit them later, to tricking all the swing states into putting up gay marriage bans in 2004, to packing the Supreme Court with right wing idealogues up to 20 years before they'd be needed to decide the 2000 election, that Rove is regular Jedi Master.

I've been saying this for years! "Liberal Democrats" are neither liberal nor democratic. They are indeed socialists.
