| ~ To Gitmo, With Love ~ Helping Our Own |
Yesterday, Star took everyone on a field trip to Guantanamo Bay! She did this for a reason.
Last week, a Navy wife and friend of MoJo and family visited from Gitmo. She was one of the first people MoJo met in the Hampton Roads area. Our families became close friends and have remained in close contact. After meeting with Teresa, it has become apparent that our guys and galz need some moral support.
According to Teresa, the constant badgering by our media, the international community, and lack of support from the American people has really lowered their morale. It is our hope today that you will find time to send a message on the thread. A link will be provided to Teresa and her husband to pass along to our Gitmo Heroes. Also, the entire thread will be printed out and sent.
I wasn't sure whether or not to actually do a thread about this. All of our Troops need support. However, with the recent stupidity and malicious items printed in Newsweek, it has become apparent that we need to do something.
Please join the Canteen in sending our love, best wishes, and THANK YOUs to all that serve at Gitmo. |

We spend so much time sending out prayers and best wishes to everyone of our troops, generally, that we sometimes forget to focus on those who may need a little more from us.
No Soldier, Sailor, Airman, or Marine should feel unwanted or unloved, not when there are so many of us here offering our unconditional support.
To those of you serving at Gitmo, I'd like to say first and foremost, thank you. You are fulfilling a critical need in America's Global War on Terrorism. You are professionals, and we know that regardless of what America's enemies try to tell us. We know you, we've known those who've gone before, you most assuredly are not what those who hate you would have us believe of you.
We support you all the way, and we are here for you when you need us. Just let us help...
Above all else, keep faith with your brothers and sisters in arms. You are a team, and will keep each other strong. Many of us old-timers here know what that's all about, and can attest to the power of the military brotherhood.
God Bless and Keep you, in this and all that you do.

The Good Stuff for 24 May, 2005
The Word
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."--John 1:1
The Founder
"There is a rank due to the United States, among nations, which will be withheld, if not absolutely lost, by the reputation of weakness. If we desire to avoid insult, we must be able to repel it; if we desire to secure peace, one of the most powerful instruments of our rising prosperity, it must be known that we are at all times ready for war." --George Washington
The Joke
A man rushed into the doctor's office and shouted, "Doctor! I think I'm shrinking!!" The doctor calmly responded, "Now, settle down. You'll just have to be a little patient."

2-116th Infantry helps secure Guantanamo Bay
by Maj. Ed Larkin
29th Infantry Division Public Affairs Officer
The soldiers of 2nd Battalion, 116th Infantry Regt. are a bit leaner and tanner these days from the many hours of long patrols in the mountains of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Deployed in December 2002 to provide security for detainees and U.S. forces, they have quickly adapted to the challenging environment of Guantanamo Bay.
I am here because it is the right thing to do. We work long hours and we also do some tough training. I am happy to have the opportunity to do my part, said Spc. Jonathan Rothwell of Company C.
It is January and the temperature is well into the high 80s as the members of 2nd Battalion, 116th Infantry, Company C, 1st Platoon prepare for a combination mounted and foot patrol. They go through a series of equipment checks and review the tactical route prior to departure. This is just the start of the soldiers double-digit day. During the hours of duty, they will cover miles of terrain, search for anything unusual in their area of operations and seek out uninvited visitors.
Located 90 miles south of Key West, Florida, you would think being deployed to a Caribbean Island would be great duty. One hard look at Guantanamo Bay and you will want to get back on the plane and go home. The Guantanamo Bay area of Cuba is filled with steep, rugged mountains covered with cactus and shale rock that make climbing up the mountainsides a high adventure and coming down a bigger challenge, with more than one soldier losing their footing and doing the rucksack roll.
Patrolling is just one of the many daily missions the 2-116th performs. Other duties include working traffic control points, manning observation points and providing security in critical areas. The soldiers are doing a great job. They are beating the bush and wiping off their sweat, said 2-116th Command Sgt. Maj. Joe Puskar. It is a tough mission and they are rolling with the punches. They come out here every day to do the job in a professional manner. I am extremely proud of them.

To All the GITMO Troops:
1. Thank you all for your service to the country.
2. Don't ever, ever believe the BS constantly pouring forth from the left-wing media, implying that Americans don't support you and your efforts.
3. Your efforts are a key function in the War on Terror. Someday, you will be telling the next generation what you did for your country (proudly), and helping them understand how America won the WOT, and also to understand the insidious anti-Americanism of the media, as they tried, day-in and day-out, to undermine you, your confidence in your mission, and ultimately, America itself.
4. Stay safe, stay confident, and stay proud of your accomplishments. It is because of you that the malicious media has the freedom to attack the military that protects and defends their right to act in such a distasteful manner.
5. (True) Americans are fully in support of you. Know that to be an absolute truth. The leftists, and their media supporters will never again be able to debilitate the military like they did in the Vietnam era.
6. May GOD bless and protect you, and your families, and return you safely home to them.
