The Neville Chamberlain Republican Senators
self | 5/24/05 | exit82

Posted on 05/24/2005 4:52:19 AM PDT by exit82

We have seven Republican Senators who have betrayed their party, their country, and the Constitution.

They have accomplished "peace in our times" by allowing the Democrats to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in regard to the judicial nominees.

They have not only sold us out, but they sold us out for no gain. All they have accomplished is that the filibustering of nominees has merely been kicked down the road, to a time and place of the Democrats' choosing.

The filibuster, they tell us smugly, will only be used in "extraordinary" circumstances. To the Democrats, if a Bush judicial nominee is breathing, that is extraordinary.

From this point on, it is hereby decreed that these seven Republican weiniemeisters are to be hereby referred to as the "Neville Chamberlain Republicans" because, at great cost to the country and their own party, they have capitulated to an enemy bent on destroying them, in order to gain a false peace of no value.

Let history judge them rightly.

You are now free to return to normal Freeping. Thank you for your attention.

I am continually amazed by the bankruptcy of principle in the political party that I have worked so hard for, evidently in vain.Republicans have not learned from 1992, and they won't in 2008.

No Democratic Senator broke ranks, because the seven Demon compromisers had nothing to lose in this deal. But we have seven RINOs who couldn't wait to sell out the majority for a brief moment of adulation.

So, the Senate now has "peace in our times" thanks to the Neville Chamberlain Republicans.

Which means, the war is around the corner.

The RNC will NEVER get another dime from me! The Pubs will get my vote because I'd sooner die than vote for 99 9/10ths of Demonrats. This is the last straw.......the Repubs can't handle majorities.....they still have the mind set that the Dems and the press won't like them. To hell with em' all!

The only thing we can do now is wait.

Wait for the first time a Dem Senator calls out "extreme circumstances" when a presidential nominee for the Supreme Court is put forward.

Then this story will take on new meaning as we see those 7 RINO Senators backpedal on this "deal" that gave the Dems the use of the filibuster and gave the Pubbies nothing that they couldn't have had by just changing the rules.

"Of course they'll vote Republican - where else are they going to go?"

Is there no other place to go?

This is a compromise that works both ways ...

First, it brings the vote on Prisilla Owens immediately to the Senate. I expect her to be confirmed by a large marjority, possibly more than sixty votes.

Second, it probably means other judicial nominees who get out of committee will get their up-or-down vote in due course. (An exception may be Judge Saad of Michigan, on whom the two Michigan Senators have a hold, which is a different matter than a filibuster.)

Third, the possible use of a filliubuster remains.

Fourth, we can conclude that Frist had the votes to break a fillibuster through a rule change.

Fifth, we can conclude that Reid had to votes to sustain a fillibuster if the rule wasn't changed.

Sixth, we will see what happens when President Bush nominates judicial conservatives to the U.S. Supreme Court (other than to replace judicial conservatives). We might find outselves re-playing this showdown.

Seventh, we still need to get to 60, or as close to 60 as possible, in 2006. This means: winning in Nebraska, Minnesota, Florida and North Dakato, and possibly also in Washington, West Virginia and Maryland; while keeping our seats in Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.

Regarding the posibility of getting to the 60 mark, I think Lincoln Chafee may now have clear sailing to re-election (for lack of a top tier challenger).

Rick Santorum, however, is going to need all the help he can get to be re-elected in a big, swing state that leans a bit toward Blue, as he does have a top tier challenger.

Let's keep our eyes on the prize!

I was so irritated that when I slept I dreamt I was at a McCain campaign stop and was screaming "Sellout" at him. I sent him an email, and this morning am sending one to the RNC telling them to collect their donations from their liberal friends instead.

I respectfully disagree. This compromise moves the bar for what might be considered "extraordinary cases" to nominees which are somewhere to the right of David Duke.

Just read the compilation of trash talk comments Dems spouted about Owen and Brown. After all the vitriol directed at those two upstanding, highly competent ladies and they are going to allow them to have a vote? This is a concession that they are not "extraordinary cases".

This is a huge victory becauase two ladies whom conservatives would LOVE to have on the SCOTUS are now inoculated when and if they are nominated for it.

Of course there is. You stay home on election day. Multiply your vote with thousands of others and elected politicians will take notice.

If your vote is to mean anything at all it can never be take for granted. Once that happens the politicians will do whatever they please knowing that "there's no other place to go".

You¡¦re on the mark exit82. I was livid after the Republicans sealed the fate of a future war coming soon. History repeats itself over and over again. I could of had a V-8 but after that I had a Jack and coke, heavy on the jack. ƒ¼

DITTO!! You have echoed my feelings exactly! I almost threw up last night when these RINOs kept talking about "trust". They are going to find out that you cannot trust the RATs and sooner rather than later. My puke senator DeRINO was more of a weasel than ever last night. It was a real Mylanta moment.

Sell-out... plain & simple. I bet they didn't even HAVE the votes to break the filibuster.

You could see Munich in their eyes last night... all that was missing was the 'scrap of paper'.
