"Years ago when I was a young idiot, I read Heinlein's "Stranger in a Strange Land".
I was a fan of his too in my teen years. Now if you read a few of his novels you can clearly see the authors interest in young girls. It shows up time after time.

What about the Flower in the Attic series? But I agree, I'm planning on homeschooling my daughter and keeping a very close eye on what gets read. My mom gave that battle up, because I read so fast and always had several books going, I think I'll keep a tighter watch on that.

Aside from his message, his two dimensional writing just stinks. It's like Harry Potter for sort-of grown ups. Not the same in content, but similarly two dimensional, like comic books without pictures.

Oh, how could I have forgotten "Flowers in the Attic"? Not to mention Judy Blume books and S.E. Hinton, too, about drugs and gangs, all of which my own mother bought for me.
But, of course, I must admit, all those books seem so innocent now compared to this "Rainbow Party" book. :-0

It's called FICTION!! How's this book any different then all those teenage fantasy movies where a bunch of losers build a robot, conjer a geanie, get mind-control powers etc. to score with women.

I've said it before, but liberals hate children
Thanks for the inane, blanket and just plain stupid statement, newbie.
I almost forgot....Welcome to FR.

"People seem to have this idea that one (especially young people) can read or see anything and it won't affect them."
This is true, but people can (and should) be able to separate fiction from reality.
I read some books in high school that were pretty graphic, but I knew that a) it was a work of fiction, and b) that I shouldn't act it out in real life.
Apparently parents don't teach their kids that anymore.
Personally, I think the book would probably be okay for high school kids and parents, BUT it seems to almost be advertised as a regular childrens book. And that is wrong.

Hey, I remember reading Lolita at the age of 14. Didn't turn me into a hard core sex offender.

Whoa. I'm having a flashback. I remember when Blumes books were considered raunchy. Suddenly I'm feeling old.

We need no suggestions for new inquiry to be explored by Howard Stern. We already had Judy Blume, well-known as a controversial author that wrote some pretty racy juvenile literature.

I was never that advanced. I only know legal terms in Latin.
To: King Prout
when I was that age I was reading Virgil's Aeneid... in Latin.
Hey, that scene with Aeneas & Dido in the cave--pretty racy...

I have thought it best to boycott Simon and Schuster for some time. Everything that's smutty seems to be published by them. This...Hillary's book...

Yeah, sure. I remember a certain line from the description of Dido's suicide that elicted some snickers from the class--and a very red face for the one poor lad who translated it wrong...

I wasn't going to read this thread, but I did.
I don't buy childrens books from major publishers
anyway (bc the ppl with kids whom I know have
specific other preferences)
When were the anti-porn laws repealed? Back during
the Warren Court IIRC. Time to bring them back.

Couldn't agree with you more.
The local high school my brother attends in Brookline MA recently had a Gay ' love fest teach in '. The filth they showed the children was simply staggering - outright pornographic.
FR had a number of threads about this.
Anyway, the people within my brothers neighborhood are 90% good little liberals suffering their liberal guilt over living in 800,000.00 - 1M homes. Tons of ' Kerry ' signs during the election. They bitch about the American flag...
- They all sent their children to this sick fiasco. What, they love their children so much they want them to embrace
homosexual sex well under the age of 14?? Thats not love.
These liberal teachers ' love ' children so much they want to expose them to sex well under the age of 14? Thats not love either.
And a friendly welcome to FR. You'll find a lot of friendly people here. Just give it some time.
