A rise in diseases such as whooping cough, tuberculosis, malaria, measles and even leprosy are creating public health concerns and could hit hospitals and health care systems already financially burdened by indigent illegals flooding emergency rooms and urgent care centers.

"We used to reject immigrants with dangerous diseases. Liberalism is dangerous to your life as well as your liberty."

Last time I checked, the "conservative" Republicans were in power.

"...I think the left smells a wedge issue..."

Absolutely. This one is going to cost the Republicans. I think we'll see some lost ground in '06, and potentially huge losses in '08.

I don't think the Republicans care. I think the Republicans need the Democrats and vice versa. So, the Republicans are doing their best to keep the Democrats viable.

"I want some liberal to explain to me how it is OK to let disease ridden terrorists wander across our border at will."

I want some conservative to explain to me how it is they are in power and are doing nothing about this?

I so understand this issue. Since the influx of illegals from both Mexico and Bosnia here, our family has seen so much more sickness that when he's sick, my hubby's standard comment is, "Well, I've got the Bosnian crud again."

"When I hear people say that the cost of produce will go up..."

Unfortunately, there are many here who can't think beyond their next trip to WalMart.

They only have diseases no one else wants, not even blacks. (I apologize for myself and for Fox.)

This country has been sold out by both parties for different reasons.

The republicans want cheap labor, the democrats want lots of new voters who tend to vote overwelmingly democrat, the Libertarians, in effect, want a billion antigun people to move here tomorrow with no limit at all on immigration or who immigrates.

Oh...when I saw the headline, I figured it would be page one in the NY Times--since, after all, they publish so much on health-related matters such as the percent fat in your diet and the dangers of second hand smoke. Hmmm...I was surprised it wasn't them. /sarcasm

Do you think the republicans in Washington are "conservative"?

"Do you think the republicans in Washington are "conservative"?"

Everyone tells me they are. When I'm here, I'm told to vote conservative, which translates to republican. :)

A conservative wants secure borders, a strong dollar, a balanced budget, economic self sufficiency, an actual absolute decrease in federal spending and laws/control, not getting involved in foreign wars, gun control laws to be repealed, etc.

Yep, it makes no difference who runs this country anymore. Many won't agree but our future is bleak.

The Constitution party still wants all those(conservative) things, but nobody will vote for them.

If that's the definition, there is not a single conservative in Washington! Especially not in the White House.

The only true conservatives I see are on FR and among my peers at work. I don't know what's in the water in Wash DC but it turns even the most conservative to the left once they get there. There is some type of brainwashing going on up there, once our politicians get there, they lose sight of all they ran for.

I wish the people could be constantly polled on issues and the congress would be required to vote the will of the people. But as mom used to say, if wishes were horses, beggars would ride.

Why do you suppose that is? I would but I don't want to "waste" my vote. Next election I just might, unless the person running is strong on securing our borders. He/she can forget my vote and that of many freepers (not that it would make a lot of difference I suppose).

If both the democrat and the republican want bigger government, more fed spending, more fed laws/control over you, more gun control, unsecure borders, moving american factories to asia, does it really make any difference if the democrats want to do it just a little faster? Are we safer, better off, have more privacy, a stronger dollar, and less in debt today than we were before bush and the other republicans got elected?
