Any connection between this article and the truth is like a flat stone over a pond. It touches the truth only in passing and only to jump away from it and back into lies. It is pathetic that some otherwise adult Brits will read this and get a grossly dishonest view of America.

This has been 'a talking point' I have seen many democrats use. Who cares? 55 Senators is 55% of Senate. 55% of the states.
Using half of state population where Senators are split and whole population where one party holds both:
55 Republican Senators represent 49.05% [138,025,740 people]
44 Democrat Senators represent 50.64% [142,519,744 people]
"Independent" Jeffords represents half of Vermont, 0.11% [304,414 people]
Wash DC has no representation in Senate, 0.20% [572,059 people]
