Remember Our Fallen Memorial Day
Remember Our Fallen Memorial Day ^

Posted on 05/28/2005 12:25:55 PM PDT by anonymoussierra

As we pause to remember our fallen comrades this Memorial Day, we need to take time to give thought to their families, their friends and to those who love them. We cannot measure the depth of their loss nor can we comprehend the true measure of their sorrow. They served their nation well, standing between the enemy, and us, between good and evil, between freedom and tyranny. Their service came not as a burden but as a duty.

[end]

To properly honor them, we must speak of them in real and human terms. They were more than our friends: They were our buddies, And they were closer than family in many ways because we developed a kinship with them that only those who have experienced the realities of war can understand. We honor their memory, but at the same time we mourn them. We are grateful for the privilege of knowing them and having them included in our lives. What is finest about our nation--individual freedom, justice, equality and opportunity -- has been sustained because of them. And for that every American is in their debt.

[end]

Memorial Day

Memorial Day, May 30 (traditional), is a sacred day to all war veterans. America's collective consciousness demands that all citizens be reminded of the deaths of their fellow countrymen during wartime. By honoring the nation's war dead, we preserve their memory and thus their service and sacrifice. All U.S. flags should be displayed at half-staff during the morning hours. At noon, they should be raised back to full-staff.

You have done good, again! You are as patriotic of Americans as any American I see, and love our country more than some of the libs do here in our country. Keep loving us and keep being an ally, Poland! Thank you, Sara--for helping to remind us of our brave men and women who protect those around the world who love freedom and liberty. God bless them all--and God bless you!

Anonymous, I have dial-up and it is HARD to see My Comments (my pings) when there are photos in a ping. This seems to be a hard thing to explain so I am asking that you take my name off of all your ping lists.

If this does not make sense, please let me know.

How do I download this wonderful graphic onto my computer?

Wait until all the graphics on the page have loaded, then put your arrow over the graphic you want. If it's completely loaded, you should get the option 'save picture as' (or whatever the English equiv. is, my computer is a bit different). You can also make it your background.

If you choose to save the graphic, you should get a window asking to where. Choose somewhere where you can find the graphic again. A good viewer for graphics is Irfanview, it helps you shrink and blow up, crop, etc.

The Statler Brothers - More Than A Name On The Wall

I saw her from a distance, as she walked up to the wall
In her hand she held some flowers, as her tears began to fall
She took out pen and paper as to trace her mem'ries
She looked up to heaven, and the words she said were these.

She said, ''Lord my boy was special, and he meant so much to me
And Oh, I'd love to see him just one more time you see
All I have are the mem'ries and the moments to recall
So Lord could you tell him he's more than a name on the wall.''

She said, ''He really missed the family, being home on Christmas day
And he died for God and country in a place so far away
I remember just a little boy, playing war since he was three
And Lord this time I know, he's not coming home to me.''

She said, ''Lord my boy was special, and he meant so much to me
And Oh, I'd love to see him but I know it just can't be
So I thank you for my mem'ries and the moments to recall
But Lord could you tell him he's more than a name on the wall.''

''Lord could you tell him he's more than a name on the wall..."

Merle Haggard - Fightin' Side Of Me

 I hear people talkin' bad,
About the way we have to live here in this country,
Harpin' on the wars we fight,
An' gripin' 'bout the way things oughta be.
An' I don't mind 'em switchin' sides,
An' standin' up for things they believe in.
When they're runnin' down my country, man,
They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.

Yeah, walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
Runnin' down the way of life,
Our fightin' men have fought and died to keep.
If you don't love it, leave it:
Let this song I'm singin' be a warnin'.
If you're runnin' down my country, man,
You're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.

I read about some squirrely guy,
Who claims, he just don't believe in fightin'.
An' I wonder just how long,
The rest of us can count on bein' free.
They love our milk an' honey,
But they preach about some other way of livin'.
When they're runnin' down my country, hoss,
They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
