My wife and I heard this "song" played on Seattle radio on Saturday and I just had to find out if Jay Leno really allowed this "bleep" on his show. When I searched Google, I found this film of it. It's apparently true. Did anyone see this on Leno? If so, he needs to be "outed"
Anybody who is offended by this must have pretty thin skin.
Yes, I saw it live and couldn't believe it. Not just because it was such a blatant slam at the president, which I suppose you could argue is just free speech, but because it was such a stupid, piece of cr*p song. The guy who sang it had apparently heard a lot of old Bob Dylan albums without managing to absorb one iota of talent for song craft or lyric writing. It sounded like something written by a sullen, not-very-bright 15-year-old who's just finished his third guitar lesson and celebrated by listening to Air America for an hour. Absolutely pathetic. If this is what the left thinks is going to put Republicans on the run, then they are simultaneously sad and laughable.
"Out" Jay Leno? Why? Doesn't anyone watch his show anymore?
It was cut from the final airing. It never showed as far as I know.
So it was shown live? Guess I was mistaken.
Leno hasnt been funny for a while now. I stopped watching him a while back.

When the president talks to God Are the consonants all hard or soft? Is he resolute all down the line? Is every issue black or white? Does what God say ever change his mind When the president talks to God?
When the president talks to God Does he fake that drawl or merely nod? Agree which convicts should be killed? Where prisons should be built and filled? Which voter fraud must be concealed When the president talks to God?
When the president talks to God I wonder which one plays the better cop We should find some jobs. the ghetto's broke No, they're lazy, George, I say we don't Just give 'em more liquor stores and dirty coke That's what God recommends
When the president talks to God Do they drink near beer and go play golf While they pick which countries to invade Which Muslim souls still can be saved? I guess god just calls a spade a spade When the president talks to God
When the president talks to God Does he ever think that maybe he's not? That that voice is just inside his head When he kneels next to the presidential bed Does he ever smell his own bullshit When the president talks to God?
I doubt it
I doubt it
Dear God, is that what passes for music today? Some of the losers on American Idol were better than that.
That was positively dreadful.
I am Just so fed UP--I've definitely HAD IT with all this "Anti-President George W. Bush Hate/Slander/Mockery/ Perversion/Lies".
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, already!
Our President is NOT our country's Enemy!! He is Fighting for our Liberties!!
"Out" Jay Leno?
What is it about this lefty stooge that you think people don't know?
It IS disgusting....but I don't think we should give them the indignation they want. They're throwing this out as bait and we shouldn't play their game. Plus, this little punk believes stirring a hornet's nest will give him more notoriety. We should not play into their hands. (sorry for the mixed metaphors)

HHFi says he saw it live (#4). Ok, Which one's right?
I live in Dallas and I definitely saw it, so maybe they only cut it from Pacific Time Zones after getting a couple of hours of nasty reaction from the rest of the country.
Yeah, I saw it also, it was definitely aired. And I agree with b-cubed, not only did it sound like it was written by a 15-yr old kid, he looked like a 15-yr old kid. The guitar looked too big for his body and he looked like he was wearing his "much-larger" daddy's clothes. Not a personal attack, that's just what it looked like. I was amazed Jay let it on.
It's listed on the NBC Web site, so it must have aired in at least some time zones:

You know something macamadamia? I totally agree with you. I'm almost sorry I brought it up.
Will the Admin Monitor please delete this?
No need to apologize. I didn't intend my first post as an indirect criticism.
"OUT" Jay Leno?
He's a Chomsky-ite from wayback.
Funny, most people on the left think Leno is a flaming rightist.
You're a bright one aren't you !?
This was so disgusting I am appalled and sickened.
I will never be able to see Leno in the way I used to.
To think he would have this garbage on his show and then applaud it.
The guy can't put two notes together, so it's hard to tell, but I think he stole Johnny Cash's "When the Man Comes Around" tune.
Here's an old thread about this Oberst person.

That doesn't suprise me.
you might support that hate speech but it has no place on the public airwaves
But he IS in Sourthern Mexifornia.. He could lose his job if he was just a little too conservative..
(although I couldn't see any 'metaphors' in what you were saying.)
And...and...I am very much aware of how "It's the 'IN' thing to verbally bash our Presidents & fellow Republican/Conservative leaders".
But doesn't it ever get boring or tiresome for even such Narcisstic Nobodies like this 'Some lead singer of some band'???
I stopped watching him when he spent the better part of two years trashing Linda Tripp. I used to enjoy Jay, but I will not forgive him for trashing a person who would not allow herself to be intimidated into committing perjury.
The rabid left talks a pretty good line about workplace abuse, until one of their darlings is caught practicing the worst types of it.

Well said!
I am a huge Bright Eyes fan, in fact a fan of Conor Oberst in general. I do not appreciate anyone saying that this man does not have talent, because you have obviously only heard this song. If you will take a look at this website
http://thestoryinthesoil.com/albums.html
you will see that Conor has worked on many albums, many record labels, and in many different bands. Before you go criticizing his music you should hear more than one song, for he is actually an amazing guitarist. And though his voice is not the best, it adds a feel of pure emotion to his music, almost as if he is about to begin crying during his songs. It adds a gritty, unedited feel that many bands can never obtain because they sound horrible live. With Conor, what you hear on CD is what you get. His lyrics are also very poetic and heartfelt. If you do not like his music you are entitled to that opinion, but please do not say he has no talent. I don't criticize your music, you shouldn't criticize mine. Conor Oberst had the guts to stand up on national television and sing this song. I applaud him for that. I vote republican myself, because I believe that John Kerry was not a good choice to run this country. But Bush must admit that he made a mistake in the Irag war. Too many lives have been lost, too much money spent. He is not a bad man, but he should be able to confess his failures, for everyone has them. Don't attackConor on a personal basis because he has stood up and defended his point of view. I admit that the song is profane in some parts, but sometimes it takes profanity to indicate anger or force a point across into someones mind. I'm sure you have all used it at one point or another as well.
The main point of this reply was to put a stop to anyone criticizing Conor like this just because of one songs. Hear some of his other stuff, then tell me he has no talent. And if you still hold by your opinion, the nI wonder what you consider talent to be exactly?
Thank you, and please do not be angry that I feel this way about President Bush. It is my personal opinon which I am entitled to. Many others share the same opinion, some of whome are war veterans.
I agree. I have been praying for our troops to return safe, sound, and as soon as possible.
Honestly, this is the only one of Conor's songs that is downright rude. I'd encourage you to try to listen to some other songs of his. He is actually a poetic genius. And many of his songs you will catch yourself tapping your toe to. I'd recommend you listen to "First Day of My Life", "A Song To Pass The Time", and "Arc of Time". Three very good and very unpolitical songs. They are all very different from each other, because Conor is not afraid to try different styles on his differnet albums.
And you do have a point about the car accident thing. I just think it is sad that we couldn't have avoided so much loss of life in this effort. But the decision has been made now, so let's just hope it's over soon.
But Bush must admit that he made a mistake in the Irag war. Too many lives have been lost, too much money spent.
I care about my President and my country and my troops in harm's way. I care about that we are at war for our survival against islamofascism.
I detest the haters of George W Bush and this song oozes that hatred of a good man (as you so in contradiction called him) in a time when this garbage is being used by our terrorist enemies and by the Democrats and Hollywood and the News Media to try to bring down this President and force is to cut and run from Iraq in the face of terrorists who blow people up and chop off their heads.
Those are my priorities, and your little friend can go jump off a bridge (figuratively speaking) for all I care.
I don't appreciate the hate that I can see oozing from your post. I didn't yell at you, you shouldn't be yelling at me.
If you would actually read my post, I voted for President Bush as well, and I hold by my decision. As I said, it was my personal opinion, and you do not have to share it, that he made a mistake, in sending us in so fast. i think we should have been a little more cautious. I did not say I hate President Bush, in fact other than the Iraq situation, I think he is doing a fine job of running our country. I do not agree with Conor on this issue, and I do believe that this song was out of line. The only thing I said was please do not judge Conor's talent on one song.
Now please do not tell me to go jump off a bridge. I had a friend who died in the 9/11 attack, I felt the pain just as much as you did.
Thank you.
Sorry, please do not tell Conor to jump off a bridge. I made a mistake typing.
I can't really understand your post... is it supposed to be about me? It isn't very clear...
Well in the event that it is about me, then I believe you are calling me a troll, and saying that I defend Saddam. Ok where to start... let's see. I hated Saddam for ever after 9/11. A very good friend of my family worked in that building and was killed in the bombing. I was very glad, even though I did not support the war, to hear that Saddam had been captured. I would even say that he deserves the death penalty for what he has done. It was horrible. When I say that I don't support the war, it means that I didn't agree with the President while he was making the decision. Now that it has been made, I believe that we should follow through. I support our troops, and pray daily for their safe arrival home soon.
If your post was not about me, then I am terribly sorry, but I felt like I should explain myself.
I support Conor Oberst. Singing an anti-war song is a far cry from killing millions, so anyone who wants to try to say I support Saddam because I support Conor... that's a little far-fetched.
