I agree completely with your post, but it is still hard to swallow. I am only 26, and I went to school with clinton as pres. Bush restored the honor of the white house, but he also called the minutemen vigilantes. That bugs me some, since all they did was call the INS on the intruders.

I am working 60-70 hours a week as a crane mechanic and operator, spending time with my family when I am not at work, trying to get a home loan, getting ready for a new baby, raising a 3 year old.

Point taken. You are obviously fighting the good fight, staying in the game of life. God Bless you. My daughter got married last year, I'm a school teacher and summer vacation is only a week away and thus I have more than enough time to devote to politics.

Some folks like the status quo. Some republicans are frightened by my brand of conservatism and want to stay with the "centrists." These folks are sheep. If you read the essay I keep on sheep, wolves and sheepdogs, you'll understand. If you need me to post the link again, just say so. Anyway, the core of the Republican Party is and HAS to be the deeply dedicated conservatives.

As we progress in the WOT they will grow stronger. We must be vigilant that the lurking globalists not gain too much leverage to take away freedoms in the name of safety! Safety is nice, but it's not first. Life is first and.....Life is not....safe!

Along with the WOT conservative values may also take root again or they may not....that is a tree that must be nourished and watered and fed. The problem in the past has been that conservatives have been fighting to keep new liberal initiatives off our backs to try and roll back older ones. That tide is starting to turn a bit.

RATS are sneaky. They claim a spirit of compromise which to them means watching and taking every bit they can get until the conservatives will be pushed no further then they stop, only to come back and demand anew all that they wanted before and more.... The problem is that certain RINOs are more than willing to help them destroy this country. They are the folks that must be voted OUT!

The only way to do this is to find a great candidate to replace them, then find several nuggets of negativity that will resonate with their constituents and run with it. But there MUST be a viable, likeable candidate ready to leap into the fray with proper funding and backing. Otherwise you risk handing the seat to the RATS.

Keep in mind until you are on the NRA board of directors you are just another member.

Ahhhhh not quite. LIFE MEMBERS like myself and I'm sure shooter2.5 have a leeeeetle more clout than the rest. We get to VOTE in board elections and we have begun to elect a steady stream of activists who will take the battle to our enemies. Why do you think the OTHER side keeps whining about the "gun lobby" being sooooo dangerous?

But there is more to life and politics than gun issues.

You sound like my in-laws. No there is not more to life than gun issues. Ask any Israeli. Ask anybody who lost a family member to genocide. Ask anybody in a BLUE STATE who can't get a CCW and needs one, badly. Ask any Brit or Aussie that has had his gun TAKEN by his own benevolent despot in the name of safety and now must cower in fear as he watches the scum ransack his home and rape his family. If he fights back HE is the one going to jail and that is EXACTLY where our opposition wants to send this country!

And as far as gun ownership goes I will keep mine, with or without the approval of the almighty Shooter 2.5. But there is more to life and politics than gun issues. The weekend is almost here, and tomorrow I am heading to the river. If you want to stay and "clean your gun"....have at it. You talk a good fight, but it's just talk. When push comes to shove you'll be part of the other 99% of the sheep who will meekly turn your gun over to the government with a soft and meek Here it is, please don't hurt me... While the blood of better men is shed to keep you free. Go on run to the "river," and enjoy yourself. The republic will still be here when you get back because of the efforts of people like shooter2.5. Btw, I've pinged just a few of the single issue crowd whom I'm sure will ping others on FR and I'm equally sure they'll let you see the error of your ways. Run along to the river youngster....there will be plenty of reading to catch up on later.....

Thanks. The school teacher in you said it a lot better than I could. I was at a loss of words. Single issue indeed! You don't have much if you can't keep yourself and family alive.

No one who complains they have to throw a piece of paper away will do anything to protect their freedom.

One thing that 30 years in Alaska taught me is that a goodly number of stateside big talkers have little to shoot off but their mouths. But they are damned good at it. Take it any way you like

Anyone who owns a firearm in today's America can thank the NRA. Period. If not for the NRA, the RKBA would have been nullified by legal dictat thirty years ago.

commonasdirt, if you own a firearm and do not belong to the NRA, fine then. But do not pretend to be anything else but a freedom freeloader, enjoying the liberties bought by others with their own blood and money. And do not attempt to disparage the efforts of those of us who are in the fight while you sit on the sidelines. There is no honor in that.

Stay well,

Well said, Ex-Soldier. As a NRA life member the voting ballot comes, I vote and send it back. It counts. The second amendment is important enough to me (read my profile page) to be a single issue voter. Although, I must admit, I'm coming up on a second single issue (if there can be such a thing) - our porous borders. But, that's another issue...

NRA? Yeah... sure thing. For a long time now they have had more vested interest in prolonging the problem than in solving it.

GOA/JPFO/SAS are where it is at.

" GOA/JPFO/SAS are where it is at."

I belong to them too. But the NRA, warts and all, accomplishes more than all the rest combined. Ask any politician who's fought against them.

Isn't The New American that rag by the Birch Society kooks?

If they don't like it, the NRA must be great...

Was the NRA great before or after they tried getting the .357 and the .44 magnums outlawed "because no one needs a handgun that powerful"?

With friends like that, who needs Sarah Brady?

Yeah... even if they are pushing an "acceptable level on gun control".

Funny thing, after the EVIL EMPIRE fell, the books of the KGB were opened and lo, but it was proven that all the assertions made by those "kooks" were 100% correct! Shortly after they were formed just post Korean conflict, they themselves requested a CONGRESSIONAL investigation into their own operations. 100% clean. That's why current members of the armed forces can belong and not risk losing their security clearances. I'm not sure the same can be said for members of the Libertarian Party or the Green Party, for that matter.

You should read this book: The Creature From Jekyll Island by G. Edward Griffin. He is not JBS (John Birch Society) but his work on the Federal Reserve and the world bankers validates EVERYTHING ever submitted by the Birchers and he backs it up. Fascinating book. But then, I teach economics and American Government......

Crap. Where do you get that assertion? Can you post the documentation? Are you and commonasdirt neighbors or something? Same boy scout troop maybe?

More crap. Show me where this is a stated position of the NRA. Show me the internal memos or the news stories and QUOTES by NRA Boardmembers and past presidents. Show me incontrovertible proof and I'll apologize on this open forum. Otherwise, you stink of troll. BTW, Having run a morgue once in my distant past, I thought I recognized that stench.

Easy, ExSoldier, easy. Dead Corpse is on the good side here, even if he's not a big fan of the NRA.

DC, I would be interested in sources you have for your assertations. Not to put you on the spot; I am sincerely interested in learning more and making my own judgements.

Nope. You may not like the NRA and I don't expect everone to but they are the best lobbying group gun owners have. No one and I mean no one comes close. That's not my opinion. That's the anti's and groups that track lobbying groups.

That doesn't mean we should join the NRA and ignore the others. Personally, I like the Second Amendment Sisters and JPFO. Why? Because they can raise an awareness the NRA can't.

I would suggest joining the NRA, the GOA and your state association.

Dead Corpse, Joe vouches for you, you're okay in my book. Sorry if I went ballistic on you. Really. OTOH commonasdirt earns just zero respect from me. Hope he's having fun at the river. Hope he's armed. Alaska is pretty unforgiving territory. Had a buddy stationed there. Only place I ever heard of where to take out the trash you've gotta be covered by somebody holding a .375 H&H Magnum in case the Grizzly bear has gotten into the dumpster again. Wouldn't want to open the side door to toss in the trash bag and have your FACE removed as happened to one guy at Fort Richardson years ago.
