I Need Help with a New Progressive Effort

A few months ago I started a new website - ConvinceAConservative.org - dedicated to a grass roots political education movement: Dems convincing their conservative neighbors why we're better. People writing into newspapers to make a statement, not just Bush-Bash.

The website is simple. It's a database of hot political issues and accompanying arguments for the progressive position.

Unfortunately, I'm a college student, and I haven't been able to fill in many of the arguments. [That is, he reached his conclusions before looking at the evidence]

I'm asking for help. I need good writers who can make a strong case for the Democratic position on hot button issues.

If you'd like to help, please e-mail me at james@convinceaconservative.org or AIM at convaconserv, or just visit http://convinceaconservative.org / for more information.

Thanks!

This guy should get a clue....The arguments that they're "better" don't exist.

Sounds like he's trolling over at the DU. Trying to get some takers on spouting off some off-the-wall positions they usually take, only he/she is trying to get them all in one place at one time.

Add the term 'unemployed' and it could pretty much sum up 90% of the group over at DU.

Dear Socoljam-

1) draw your conclusions.

2) Select data,no matter how flawed,to support your conclusions.

3) Discard any data,no matter how valid, which does not.

it's the Democrat way

The kid does a magnificent job illustrating the vapid yet elitist attitude of liberals: "I know we're better than other people...but would someone tell me WHY I'm better?".

He should simply take a lesson from his party leadership. Here's a great sample of D writing on the issues:

That site is RICH with material....pure comedy.

At ConvinceAConservative.org, our mission is simple: to explain to conservatives that our ideas are better in a peaceful and non-confrontational way.

Our goal is not to alienate conservatives or moderates, but rather to bring them to our side by intelligent, convincing argument.

On this website you will find several of the best arguments for the Democratic position on many issues, from abortion to school vouchers, and we hope to add more all the time.

***When I clicked on the ISSUES link, there was nothing.

If you are 20 and conservative, you have no heart.
If you are 40 and liberal, you have no brain.

What is not said is that if you are 20 and liberal, you don't have the political capacity to moderate a political website. ME IZ A CALLEGE STOODUNT !! MI MAJA IZ INGLUSH !!!

Actually he has the right idea. Persuade through debate. Eschew the ad hominem. I am convinced of the superiority of the ideas from my side of the ideological fence. Nevertheless his attempt at honest debate needs to be nurtured and praised.

"I'm asking for help. I need good writers who can make a strong case for the Democratic position on hot button issues."

You can't make a strong case that is the problem! I suggest you read up on the Port Huron Declaration to get a historical perspective on why the Democrats have veered so far to the left that any meaningful debate cannot happen. Liberalism is in itself a contradiction it will never really go away since the presumed arrogance by some who believe to know what ails us (and it's purported cure) will always be with us. It is a disease that afflicts modern affluent societies. You can bottle it up but never really get rid of it!

Save yourself 20 years in the wilderness and consider an alternate arguement: Why is there an overwhelming effort to stop liberalism in it's tracks and why Conservatism will alway prevail. Now THAT would be an education!

I suggest you read anything by Irving Kristol, Robert Bork's Slouching towards Gomorrah is a good primer and The Road to Serfdom by F Hayek. It is time your REAL education began.

Cheers!
