It appears to me that Rumsfeld made his choice clear. China is out and India is in. U.S.--Japan--Taiwan--India, the emerging counter-China alliance.

Love Rummy, but the 'Republic of China' is Taiwan;
the mainland is the 'People's Republic. . . '.

Re #3
Well, Australia is solidly against Jihadis, but their stance on China is not really convincing for some reason. Maybe they think that they have too much economic interest at stake.

Re #4
Yeah, I noticed that, too.

plus Australia has a poulation of what, 25 million? C'mon. Those guys are more worried about becoming a parking lot for the Chinese navy. I'm with Rumsfeld and would throw in they speak English and have some semblance of the British administrative system in place. India has alot of work to do, but it can clearly be a big winner in the 21st century.

Looks like Russia might be with us too. Things are looking better...

Love Rummy, but the 'Republic of China' is Taiwan; the mainland is the 'People's Republic. . . '. Then again, you, Rummy and I know how much of the 'People's "Republic"' actually belongs to the Chinese people, the ones who crave for democracy.

This is only Rumsfeld's third trip to Asia during his current tenure as defense minister What a slacker!
/sarcasm
It's not like he's had nothing else to do.

excuse my ignorance, but why is our defense sec. ruminating on India, not exactly a strong defense ally, more of a trading partner...don't get me wrong, I love Rummy, but wonder about this trip
