I'll admit, I'm very pro cops (rank and file, not the brass) because I have alot of friends who are cops

I hope that a situation never arises for you where there is a conflict between your friends being cops and your friends being friends.

It did for me, and the cop won out over the friend.

You can only speak to cops in a few 5-word sentences: "I have nothing to say". "No, not without a warrant". "Am I under arrest, officer?" "Am I free to go?" Any other comment when in contact with LEO is liable to create an unsatisfactory result.

Increased budgets for the department means increased money for all sorts of things, including new patrol cars and nifty new military-style gear. Some departments are even issuing their regular officers SWAT-style body armor and M-16s.

It varies from locale to locale, here in NYC, it doesn't mean squat to the regular cops.

The revenue goes straight to the city, and what it deems its for, the cops here aren't even on contract right now, and pay wise are at the bottom of the totem pole, yet every other city agency gets its wish list.

Ironically, LI cops, are among the highest paid in the country, but it doesn't matter either with their revenue.

NYC cops do get quotas though, how they handle them differ.

In order for the rank and file to remain, they must satisfy the brass. Today that can be scary given the priorities that political correctness has created and the criteria used to evaluate officer performance.

I don't like the brass guys, they usually are against the rank and file and use negative reinforcement to get to goals that have nothing to do with law enforcement.

My friends have always made it clear, you can never, ever, please the brass.

Yeah, that's as you'd expect. Too many other fingers are in the pie.

Recently (last weekend), on Court TV, there was a piece on video and law enforcement. A police officer ran a suspect to ground. Said suspect collapsed to the ground, raising both hands in surrender (showing he was unarmed) . The cop walked up to the suspect, shot him, and then proceeded to beat him. The cop did not stop until he realized a news chopper was filming the whole thing. That cop is now a detective on the same force. So the 'no one has been suspended' doesn't impress all that much.

There are alot of fine officers out there. These are definitely not among them.

Funny story, but you'll like it.

I had a cop giving me a hassle in front of my office (he thought I saw a rapist that they were looking for go into the place across the street and could give him a description, I couldn't because I got to my job late).

He was busting my chops, and threatening to bring me in if I didn't cooperate.

I told him, nicely, that I could make a couple of phone calls to a few friends of mine at IAB who would be so far up his a&& that if he stop short they would know his lunch, and then I told him their names and asked him to contact them if he brought me in.

He stopped, understood, and then I repeated that I didn't see the guy they were looking for.

They got that guy anyway a few weeks later.

Try hands, feet, face, and every other body part.

This city just doesn't get it.

"The DWI industry grosses over $75 million per year in NM alone (population 1.6 million)."

And your drunks kill how many each year? What does that cost, amigo? Sounds like you folks here (I am currently in ABQ) drink a mite too much.

I'm not sure about CR but the penalty for DUI in some South American/Central American countries is death.

Two questions for you: What job did the brass do before becoming the brass and how did they become the brass?

Looks like it's Costa Rica - for now.

My brother spent a week in Belize, to check it out. He said the biggest problem was lack of good medical facilities... Thye loved the weather, the people they met seemed nice, and the cost of living stretched a buck (he's a millionaire, but you wouldn't know it by looking)...

They ennded up selling their house, and buying another bigger one, a few miles away, in eastern NC...

I have my own reasons for loving eastern NC...

That is true, but they have a different definition and the old common law definition of crime. You have to have a convergence of bad behavior, culpable mindset and damage to people or property. Sounds fair to me.

And your drunks kill how many each year?

Well, if you actually read and parse the stats, about 500 innocent people are killed by drunk drivers per year. For that, we criminalize 2 million people per year.

Even if you believe MADD's line, 2 out of 3 fatalities are sober-related (as opposed to alcohol-related).

And your point is?
