There is no such thing as a Silver star with combat V.

What is a Bronze Star awarded for?
We had to have my dads discharge papers (he served in WW11 and Korea)for him to have a military funeral. On his papers, it showed he received 2 Bronze Stars.

Here's the Bronze Star criteria:
CRITERIA: a. The Bronze Star Medal is awarded to any person who, while serving in any capacity in or with the military of the United States after 6 December 1941, distinguished himself or herself by heroic or meritorious achievement or service, not involving participation in aerial flight, while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States; while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force; or while serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing armed force in which the United States is not a belligerent party.
Your dad was a hero at least twice.

Look at Kerry's DD214 it says Silver Star with Combat V. :D He also has a DD215 that does not remove the V device. I guess he thinks that he deserves it. :D

Is there a site I can go to to look up meanings for medals and ribbons? He has a combined seven awards and ribbons.

I know that in the Army that you can be awarded an Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star and Air Medal with a "V" for valor. The Silver star is awarded for "Gallantry in Action" and is not awarded with a "V" device, at least not when I was awarded mine. The other services could be different and I will leave it up to some one from the Navy to say yea or nay.

The fake hero with the fake silver star with a fake V was covered here on FR ra
ther well before the election.
A Silver Star is NEVER issued w/"V" device because it would be redundant.
