One would think the American public would have to be asked if they liked the idea, considering the Constitution and US sovereignty , but I guess not. We'll see more of this, especially if both parties in Congress are working on border security bills.

Yes, the OAS speech laid things out pretty starkly. Every Freeper should listen to it or find a transcript. It's clear GWB's attitudes are formed mostly by his "good intentions" and south-of-the-border in-laws and not the law.

Say what you will about the EU, but at least the Eurocrats allowed the people to vote on their sovereignty and future. It seems pretty clear to me American citizens will not be allowed a similar vote on the illegal dissolution of our own borders. The borders in Korea and Iraq seem far more important to the elitists and this administration than our own.

I've just about lost all respect for G.W. due only to the illegal immigration and lack of border protection with Mexico.

I'm very glad that he was our President on 9/11 but he's gone downhill since then.

It is best when fox hunting to have a hand full of rocks to throw in the opposite direction you want the fox to run. Now that the fox is running in the open much easier to have an open shot.

For at least 2 decades before the Zimmerman Telegram, an "infrastructure" for such a scenario had been put in place in Northern Mexico by having many many Germans relocate there. Rommel went there to learn desert warfare from Pancho Villa.

First off, there is a lie within this article that must be pointed out. Mexico President Fox IS NOT preparing for the 2006 presidential campaign. The Mexican Constitution limits presidents to a single 6 year term.

Aside from that, I believe a military confrontation may well be in the wings. Not just that, but I believe our once heralded doctrine of Manifest Destiny will be arising from beleaguered ashes to incorporate the present Mexican states under our Constitution. With over 500 years of tyranny in her history, there is no hope Mexico can make the necessary changes on her own.

Among my major reasons for believing this change must come is national security. Presently, the two most vulnerable cities for a terrorist strike against our nation are outside our jurisdiction. Those cities are Tijuana and Juarez, Mexico. And terrorist nuclear or biological attack on either, or both of these cities would have dire consequences for major US cities and major military installations. The major US cities affected would include San Diego, Phoenix, Tuscan, El Paso, San Antonio, Houston, and possibly a number of Gulf cities.

Keep in mind too that President Vincent Fox is a member of the PAN political party that adopted a party plank encouraging the northern Mexican states to join the USA.

Mexico has been a pain in our butts since at least 1826. When Texas joined the Union in 1846, and the border was set at the Rio Grande, it got even worse. The Mexicans only ackowldged the border as being the Nueces, and that's when the shooting trouble started.

The Mexican War of 1846 to 1848 was a lopsided American victory ON MOST ASPECTS. Zach Taylor's and Winfield Scott's armies thrashed the Ejercito Permanente everyplace from Contreras to Churubusco to Chapultepec. The Mexicans turned to guerilla action, and when the US Army (regulars and volunteers) weren't able to handle the guerillas (no special warfare skills in those days), Los Diablos Tejanos....the Texas Rangers....were brought in to pacify the rear areas, which they did extremely well.

Generally since 1848 relations with Mexico have been strained in one way or another. In the decades following the Mexican War, Mexico became a haven for cattle thieves, bank and train robbers and criminals of various other stripes....both Mexicans who struck into the US (such as Augustine Chacon), and Americans who stole from both sides (the Clantons, as an example). Although we have an extradition treaty with Mexico, the Mexican government fails to abide by it. We've had to deal with drug runners, coyotes who smuggle illegals, terrorists and other assorted scum coming up from Mexico. In 1916, one of their frequent governmental instabilities spilled over into Columbus, NM when Pancho Villa raided the US border. It's not improbable for something similar to happen again.

What Mexico fails to realize is this: The US was brutally attacked on 9/11/01, and the American people won't stand for it again, even if our elected officials are acting like a bunch of clueless baboons. If Mexico acts in an overtly hostile manner (unlikely), even the Wuss-in-Chief from Midland will have to act against his bueno amigo, Senor Presidente Fox. As it is, Mexico is acting in a hostile manner that is not as violently overt, and the Midland Mouse is just standing there and taking it as though nothing were happening.

The time is long since past to militarize the border, and begin rounding up and shipping out illegals. This is NOT anti-Hispanic, nor is it anti-immigrant. Hispanics who came here legally are just as offended as native born Americans at the way the border is being violated. The Hispanics I know who came legally view the illegals as pests and criminals who are ruining a country that the legals want to make a home in. But, I guess in the eyes of the left a legal isn't sufficiently Hispanic to count.....

If the federal government won't do something about the border, it does fall to the people to pick up the slack. The Texas legislators who are angry at the Minutemen are all traitors, and should be unelected next time around. When a cowpuncher has to strap on a pistol again so he can defend himself against dope smugglers and illegals just to check fence....that's when the border is in chaos, and needs to be secured.

This time around, when you vote, make sure the politicians put their money where their mouths are. If they fail to act, or act improperly, organize a recall and SEND THEM HOME! This country is far too precious to be left in the care of people who can't spot a threat when it's right under their noses!

Have to believe the narco trafficers would give more of a scrum.

The narcotrafficantes have a more serious purpose, and accordingly, use more draconian measures both to enforce discipline and instill loyalty, if only the sort of loyalty that can be bought and sold.

Remember that many of the senior officers of the underpaid Mexican Army are deditos [little fingers] in the pay of the cartels, and that by keeping their troops drunk, well-fed and out of the way at certain key times, are rendering aservice for their masters.

While you were watching that display of something less than Mexican military prowness, I wonder what was going on elsewhere....

One hemisphere

He's talking about the hemispheric integration brought about through the NAFTA, CAFTA and the FTAA. It spells the end of US sovereignty because these agreements set up a union of governments like the EU and the former soviet Union. It is like the former soviet union because the type of government for this hemispheric juggarnaut is an unelected council government. In a union of 34 countries, most of whom are governed by socialists, dictatorships or communists, Anerica's free and constitutional republic will fall.

FYI: I have no problems with immigration as long as it is legal with verified immunization and back ground checks have been performed. My whole point is to make it so disadvantageous for illegal immigration or staying past one's visa exit date no one, and I mean no one, tries to commit that crime.

I like the comparison about the imported cows...makes sense.

Why is it the Feds have a mandatory 10 for armed robbery but not even a mandatory 5 for illegal immigration?

Bush and company are working the old frog in the pot of cold water trick. Let reality take its course, illegals flooding the country, then after twenty million arrive, say, golly it's too late to send them back. Here's a better idea -- let's improve the standard of living for the entire western hemisphere. You liked one Europe? You'll love one happy hemisphere. Same deal. Free trade, free travel, capitalism and hopefully democracy the rising tide that lifts all boats. Bush hinted at this in a speech this morning. The speech was a two-by-four to the head. He mentioned many 'immigrants' from Mexico and Central America living and working happily in the US. He said this twice in case lamebrains weren't paying attention. 'Illegals' wasn't mentioned.

Nobody wants to be racist, but the law is the law. Newt Gingrich on Rush two weeks ago, came up with a practical, workable solution. This has to be done. We send them back with a promise they can enter the US legally with a green card and thumbprint so we can track them...and they have to have a job. We'd work out equitable back and forth stuff, how many times a year they could go home, etc.. They'd have to learn English and abide by our laws. If they broke the law, they'd be deported. No fooling around. Borders secured professionally, immediately, including sea coasts. Terrorism being the other side of this problem.
