Ukraine apologizes to Russia for vandal destruction of Pushkin monument

KIEV, June 9 (RIA Novosti) - Advisor to the Ukrainian Culture and Tourism Minister Igor Pristavksky condemned the vandal destruction of the monument to the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin in Lvov (Western Ukraine).

Unidentified vandals broke the monument made by local sculptor Kassel and unveiled in front of the Russian Cultural Center in Lvov on June 8.

"I apologize to the great Russian nation for this vandalism," Pristavsky said adding that Pushkin was highly popular in Ukraine.

"I am sorry to say this because I was born in Lvov and graduated from its university. Lvov is a city with rich cultural traditions known for high morals and tolerance," Pristavsky said.

"The Ukrainian Culture Minitsry is ready to help restore the monument to the great Russian poet," the advisor added.

Possible the vandalisim was carried out on Pushkin's statue due to his Black ancestry. Lvov is a heavy skin head culture zone.

Thanks for the search. However, the articles I checked from it are the results of search terms superposition - skinheads are skinheads and Pushkin is Pushkin, mentioned in the context of an example from the non-skinheaded past.

Of course the truth is that the monument was vandalized because of Pushkin's Russian ancestry. Russia's contempt and hatred for their fellow slavs has caused a backlash against them. Why bother with Pushkin when there must be at least a few real live Africans in the city or the country? I really doubt Pushkin's drop of African blood had anything to do with it.

The fact that Pushkin was something of a Russian nationalist in his day and had long been required reading in the Ukraine may have. Or maybe just that he was associated with long years in school. Why reject Pushkin as Black when there are othe reasons to do so?

Yurii Mamin's movie "Sideburns" featured a gang of toughs who combined the nationalistic fervor of skinheads with Pushkinesque fashion. It was strictly fiction, but an interesting variation on the whole skinhead phenomenon.
