PHOENIX - Gov. Janet Napolitano said Wednesday she wants to see if there is a way to have state and local police take a larger role in dealing with illegal border crossers.
She said federal agencies, by themselves, cannot stop the flow of people across the border, a figure she put at 4,000 a day.
Local cooperation is necessary, she said, "to reduce the number of undocumented immigrants."
The move comes less than a month after Napolitano vetoed legislation that would have permitted - not required - local police to enforce federal immigration law. She said Wednesday she is not backing away from that decision.

She's spinning faster than my washing machine.
Napolitano and her neighbor Bill Richardson---should be on the US Watch List.
I'll bet she was good with a hula hoop when she was younger.
she won by a thin margin, and could be ejected next time.
Looks like the Marriage amendment will be on the ballot ans she'll be toast as a result.
she looks and acts like a dyke.
She's taking a chapter out of Hillary's game plan here.
This woman flip flops worse than Kerry.
By who? No one with any stature in the Republican Party will run against her.
maybe bruce jacobs of kfyi would run?
Bruce Jacobs is more libertarian than republican.
neither libertarians nor republicans are socialists.
well, in the real world, some republicans spend tax payers' $ like socialists.
I would say Jacobs is socially moderate but fiscally conservative. More like Arnold in CA.
Janet NapolitRENO? Nah!!!! She wouldn't do that! </sarc
Like a fish in the bottom of the boat.
What the GOP needs to do is find some good Republicans from other states and send them to the states that have these border line elected officials in time to set up residence and run against them. If elected to congress or senate they won't have to live in the state they were elected in but only have an address there. But of course, if elected Gov. of any state they would have to live in a big house with a great big lawn.
Protect our borders and coastlines from all foreign invaders!
