Posted on 06/10/2005 6:34:31 PM PDT by bitt
DESPITE THE continuing gripes of his critics, records released this week show that Senator John Kerry served honorably in Vietnam. The documents should put to rest claims that Kerry misrepresented his military record in the presidential race. But Kerry's failure to respond to the smear campaign launched against him last summer lent credibility to its real objective: to impugn his equally honorable opposition to the war.
John O'Neill, a Houston lawyer and Kerry's adversary on the war since 1971, acknowledged as much in a telephone interview Wednesday. ''We produced seven commercials," he said of his anti-Kerry group, now called Swift Vets and POWs for Truth. ''Only one dealt with Vietnam activities." O'Neill was incensed by Kerry's memorable testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in 1971, in which the young veteran, clad in a combat shirt, criticized the war.
Kerry has said that he may have used a poor choice of words when he cited other veterans' reports of atrocities as being ''in a fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan." But his basic analysis was sound: Vietnamese and Americans were dying needlessly because the war was a mistake, and US policymakers allowed it to continue even though they were aware that their strategy for victory was failing.

...made much of the plight of US pilots captured by the North Vietnamese -- and most were horribly treated by their captors. But these men languished in prison for years in part because the US government failed to follow Kerry's advice to end an unwinnable war.
O'Neill said he didn't think the election should have hinged on either candidate's war record, and he's right that Bush's choice was typical of many in his generation. It is Kerry's choice that was atypical.
The records Kerry allowed to be released this week show that his commanders in Vietnam called him ''one of the finest young officers with whom I have served," and ''the acknowledged leader of his peer group. " His stand against the war only confirmed these qualities.
At first I thought you were posting a parody----"Boston Glob" is a good name for it!
Really offensive editorial from the Glob about Kerry:
he's vindicated and shouldn't be hated for trying to end the Vietnam war while George Bush 'supported it at Yale, but after graduation he chose reserve duty that kept him out of combat.'
Sorry John but wars are not photo ops or resume builders.
"Vietnamese and Americans were dying needlessly because the war was a mistake"
As opposed to the vietnamese that died after the war was over, right?
Somehow liberals think that if a despotic government kills people, it didn't really happen. Just like they forget about all the mass graves in Iraq from Saddam.
Besides Kerry's college transcript, what was released? Or does his transcrips somehow prove kerry served honorably.
There is no need to impeach Hanoi Kerry from the US Senate
He is there illegally!
For those who "forgot" what Hanoi Kerry
did in the past read on and learn the truth.
Hanoi Kerry was still a USNR officer while he:
gave false hearsay testimony to Congress
negotiated with the enemy
helped the US lose a war
abetted in the deaths of millions
created a hostile environment for all servicemen
Why is Kerry still in the US Senate?
This is in violation of
U.S. Constitution Amendment 14 Sec 3
And the FBI has proof of his treason.
Hanoi Kerry Timeline of a traitor
includes FBI files
Kerry and Julia traveled to Paris, France and met with Madame Nguyen Thi Binh, the Foreign Minister of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of Vietnam (PRG), the political wing of the Vietcong, and other Viet Cong and Communist Vietnamese representatives to the Paris peace talks, a trip he now calls a "fact-finding" mission.
(U.S. code 18 U.S.C. 953, declares it illegal for a U.S. citizen to go abroad and negotiate with a foreign power.)

Swift Boat Veteran For Truth John O'Neill Comments on Kerry's 180 'Release'
John Kerry was dishonorably dismissed from the Navy:
(statement from lawyers there at the time)
What about the records Kerry didn't allow to be released?
They were shamefully used by the Kerry people. I wonder if they even care...
"served honorably in vietnam"? 3 months. everyone was there 12 or 13.
it's not his vietnam records he's hiding, it's his paris meetings afterwards, and his discharge that carter upgraded.
Genocide in Africa? There ain't no stinkin' genocide in Africa. All they need is rich musicians to have a rock conert and dupe the working folks into donating money for something that can't really be defined.
'At first I thought you were posting a parody----"'
The bias and blatant disregard for their mission (report the news, comment appropriately) in this editorial at first made me THINK it was a parody, coming so quickly upon their disgraceful attempt to whitewash the story on Kerry's records...
Anyone with time on their hands could call these bozos...
And switch to the Boston Herald and the NY Post and the Washington Times, too.
pure swill from the Globe. Kranish is behind this. He was the official Boston Globe Kerry butt wipe from the 2004 election. They keep repeating the same old war hero trash over and over.
The facts: kerry signed some of his records over to the globe and the rest of us will never see his records.
thanks, Tonk...you're always right there with the info.
Several of us keep ping lists for the Kerry Watch...
on or off, let us know by FR Mail.
I like Boston Bulb!
I have realized that the only reason Kerry delayed authorizing the release of these records is that he was negotiating with the Defense Department demanding that they sanitize his record before release. That appears to be the only plausible explanation for the delay.
The Globe editor knows full well that Kerry won't and never will submit a 180 for release of his full military record. And they don't care, either. They will keep covering for him and they will keep on attacking and misrepresenting O'Neill and anybody else who wonders why Kerry won't do what Bush was not afraid to do -- submit the 180.
Meeting with and advocating the enemy's conditions for peace in testimony before a U.S. Senate committee is honorable?!
Lies about our military before that same committee is honorable?!
