A Syracuse man was charged with assault after he tortured his girlfriend by burning his name into her back with a heated knife blade, according to police.
Marcel Tirado, 23, of 501 Seymour St., was charged with assault and unlawful imprisonment, both felonies, and a misdemeanor charge of criminal possession of a weapon, said Sgt. Tom Connellan, a police spokesman.
"It's incredibly cruel," Connellan said. "It's beyond imagination what this woman was going through." The woman, whom police did not identify, also had scars she told police were from earlier encounters with Tirado, Connellan said.
Police gave this account:
Tirado and his girlfriend, 25, argued about 11 p.m. Saturday at her home in the 500 block of West Brighton Avenue. Tirado pinned the woman, who was sitting in a chair, against the kitchen wall by shoving a table against her.
While keeping her pinned, he heated the blade of a 4-inch folding knife on the gas stove and began burning the skin around a tattoo on the woman's arm. He also burned part of the tattoo away. Tirado threatened to kill the woman if she screamed.
"She was scared to death," Connellan said. "She honestly believed he was going to kill her."
After burning her arm, Tirado reheated the knife and burned "Marcel" into the woman's back, police said. The burn, 12 inches wide, goes from shoulder to shoulder, Connellan said.
Tirado freed the woman and left the house, Connellan said. The woman called police about 11:45 p.m., Connellan said.
The woman showed officers 20 other scars on her arms and legs where she had been burned, Connellan said.
The previous attacks were in March and May, Connellan said. The woman said Tirado also used a heated screwdriver to make the burns, he said.
The woman was taken to University Hospital, where she was released after treatment. Connellan said she is now in a safe place. She and Tirado have a 5-year-old child, he said.
Police found Tirado when he returned to the woman's home about 7:30 a.m. Sunday. He was being held in the Justice Center pending his arraignment in City Court today. Officers took from Tirado a folding knife with a blade apparently discolored by heat, Connellan said.
Just Damn Ping!
If he wanted to get away with it, burning his name into her back wasn't a good thing to do.
It's kind of tough to make the arguement that she did it to herself.
You have a point there. Too bad they don't burn a few bible verses on this SOB. I know where I'd put Genesis.
WTF!
Let me know if you want on or off the WTF! ping list.
In my book, mutilating another person's body is a death penalty offense.
In my world.......The punishment should mimic the crime.
The poor woman was trapped in an evil, abusive relationship. I know first hand how easy is it to get into them and how difficult to get out of them.
Hope she never goes back to this scum.
i want on the wtf ping list so bad my unborn child can taste it
"She and Tirado have a 5-year-old child, he said."
Why, why, why, why, WHY is this always the case?
"But, but, I LOVES him! And he didn't burn me EVERY day."
Cripes. :(
"If he wanted to get away with it, burning his name into her back wasn't a good thing to do."
When I was a kid, my Dad had a woodburner that for some reason I was obsessed with. One day I heated it up and burned my name into the side of his workbench. When he saw it, he called me on it of course, and I said my sister did it, putting my name there to make it look like I did it.
He just said, "Your sister isn't that smart; but good try!"
ROFLMAO! We still laugh about that one to this day.
(Not this this situation is any laughing matter...)
A bit of a slow learner. She's lucky law enforcement is involved. The next step for the perp is to kill her. Hopefully, she will stay away from him.
PC Question: Is this another crime committed by an illegal from another land?
LOL. When I was a kid one of the neighbor kids, who was an a$$, scratched my name into my wooden desk. My parents never believed me that I didn't do it and I was punished for it. I knocked the kid down a couple of days later, so it came up even.
It's too bad that society has such a double standard when it comes to these things.
When guys do stupid things, we can talk all about it and point out in minute details everything he did wrong and stupid.
But I bet if I called this dumb-ass chick stupid I'd get a lecture about my sensitivity.
Unless you are physically tied down with anything stronger than velcro, there is no such thing as being trapped in anything. She has a brain, she used it poorly, and she is stupid.
We should hold women to the same standards we hold men.
She should not date men named Zangjehjouls Sterenpholopis in the future.
They should slowly dip his balls into a deep fat fryer.
