The Akaka Bill Could Give Birth to the Nation of Aztlan - (goal; reclaim land lost in 1848)
HAWAII REPORTER.COM ^ | JUNE 14, 2005 | DON NEWMAN

Posted on 06/15/2005 1:15:38 PM PDT by CHARLITE

Aztlan -- have you ever heard of it? You know, the nation that encompasses what used to be all of California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and southern Colorado as well as most of Northern Mexico. There is no such nation you say? Well, a University of New Mexico Chicano Studies professor named Charles Truxillo says that it is “an inevitability.”

The influx of illegal aliens, especially from Mexico, that come and settle in that general area is seen as a precursor for the formation of this new nation. By establishing themselves in overwhelming numbers they intend to create such a huge voting block that the nation of Aztlan could be voted into reality.

This could never happen legally you say. There could be no legal precedent for the formation of a new sovereign nation within the borders of the United States that could form the seed for such a new nation. Well, the irony is that legal precedence may come from, of all places, Hawaii.

The intent of the Akaka bill is to do just that, create a new sovereign nation within the borders of the United States. The criterion is the “blood quantum” or traceable lineage of anyone who qualifies according to the established definitions as “Hawaiian.” What kind of government will be the ultimate result of such an arrangement is anybody’s guess.

Now, there will be those who will quibble as to the actual nature of the “sovereign nation” and they may be right. That is not the point of this editorial. The point is the precedence this bill will set if it passes. If Hawaiians can lay a claim to the ceded lands of Hawaii then why can’t Mexicans who were forced off their land in 1848 have a similar claim?

MEChA is a radical pro-Mexico student group that says it is committed to "the physical liberation of Occupied America" and a separate Hispanic nation in the Southwest U.S. It's motto is "Por La Raza Todo, Fuera de La Raza Nada: for the race, everything; outside the race, nothing."

Notice the same race based definition as that of the Akaka Bill. Once the precedent has been established that race is the criterion for land, government and inclusion then where does that end? It then becomes a pell-mell scuffle for land and power, nothing more.

The idea that precedents cannot lead to such absurd conclusions was recently demonstrated to be wrong by the Supreme Court’s decision on medical marijuana. The original decision concerning the wheat farmer who grew a couple hundred bushels of wheat for his own use that was ruled by the Supreme Court to be subject to the Commerce Clause of the Constitution was the precedence that led to the absurd conclusion that six marijuana plants grown for personal use were also subject to the same Commerce Clause although all commerce in the commodity is illegal.

This is the way of such legal precedents, they lead down paths that no one could possibly have envisioned. Thus to say that the Akaka Bill could lead to the establishment of native Mexican tribes in the United States which would form the seed for the nation of Aztlan is not so farfetched. It certainly could come to pass in the full course of time.

I keep on saying that if the native Hawaiians want to establish their country all over again, they should seek the wisdom of ancient precedence.

In ancient Polynesia, the losers of territory wars built boats and sailed off to find a new island. It is how many of the island groups were populated.

The native Hawaiians lost a local civil war. Perhaps it is time for them to be true to their native heritage and get on boats. Any of them that feel put on by the United States government is free to leave and find another home. Their attachment to the land is artificial. It is "western".

I wonder how long it will take them to realize that.

The whole "Aztlan" fallacy is nothing than drug-induced BS

The Aztecs were in Central Mexico...never in the American Southwest.

Every other Indian group in Mexico despised the Aztecs, and allied themselves with the conquistadores to defeat the Aztecs.

The Indians in the Southwest were Apache, Navajo, Commanche, Hopi...no AZTECS!..and they all have great dislike for the Mexicans/Spanish.

Clever rhetorical question, snarks. All this bunch needs is a charismatic leader to help them push the agenda.

GOODY.. a civil war... What will Mexico do... NOTHING?
Baja California will become U.S. territory..
And millions of legal and illegals will be outted as Mexicans..
Which they are now.. I say.. cool,,,

Let the Civil War begin.. The Anglos in Mexifornia will take a stand and can be "dealt with" as all the Azlan'inos..

In the process mexicos "army" will be stationed on Mexicos southern border with Guatalmala so as to not give the impression that Mexico is taking a stand.. They do have the drug trade to consider.. and will be in no mood to clash with U.S. Armed forces.. The Mexican government "IS" a drug cartel.. and not a gov't at all..

Actually, something that needs to be thought about

What if these crazies decide that in order to well, get their bill passed, they decide to let another region of the country form it's own nation.

Especially if this country shares a border with the proposed "Aztland"

There was a little thing called the Confederacy once. They seceded and formed their own nation. What the Federal Government did about that pretty much established the only precedent that matters. They can talk about "Aztlan" all they want, if they try it most of them are going to die -- at the hands of the Federals, not mine.

All I would say is adios. We'll even throw in San Francisco as allimony. The North fought a war to keep the South in the union because the North needed the South and her agriculture. What do we get from this "aztlan" area? We get everything from John McCain to Michael Moore.

Actually, to tell you the truth, if the leaders of this nation went to the South and told them "Wanna Try Again", the South would probably take their side.

"There was a little thing called the Confederacy once. They seceded and formed their own nation. What the Federal Government did about that pretty much established the only precedent that matters."

Thats right, they violated the Constitution, and allowed that monster Sherman to commit war crimes against people just because they were defending their homes.

And we don't want to get on the subject of Ben Butler and his famous "women of New Orleans order"

This movement as it stands now, goes nowhere, however, they could find regions of the country that would be willing to collude if they were going to get independence as well.

I believe the CW WILL start this summer with riots in East LA, and/or other mexican parts of LA. They better not have any power outages. That damn illegal mayor will be egging them on. Schvarze may have to declare martial law and send in the NG.

These riots could also happen in NY, but I don't sense them elsewhere, though I could be wrong. Depends on the weather, and power outages. Also race issues.

The point I'm getting at though is, they might approach the Southern states with a deal.

And I'm not so sure that at this point in the future that the Southern states wouldn't turn it down.

As it stands now, we are the world's 4th largest economy, we account for a large percentage of servicemen (as in, where they're from), even larger percentage of well, brass.

And we've always had a sort seperate identity from the rest of America, even the New South hasn't really been able to kill this off completely. Its just an idea being floated.

Oregon is going to have to take them all. The Aztlan folks want Texas too, since it was part of Mexico and New Spain. Southern Colorado, which is just the noun meaning "the color red" in Spanish, is also on their list. Besides, the Russians are going to want Northern CA, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska back as well.

Well for one thing, we bought CA, NM, AZ and souther CO from Mexico. Hardly anyone lived there at the time, and I never heard of those who did being forced off their land. In actuality those folks and their descendants won big time, they became Americans, and did not have to live through the endless Mexican Revolutions, and except in CA perhaps, enjoy far greater freedom than Mexican citizens in Mexico.
