Dick Durbin's passion ignites foes' ire
Chicago Tribune ^ | 6/17/05 | Jill Zuckman

...

"If I read this to you, and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags or some mad regime--Pol Pot or others--that had no concern for human beings," Durbin said.

By Thursday, conservatives' anger at what they portrayed as a comparison between the U.S. and some of history's most murderous regimes was boiling.

"I think the senator's remarks are reprehensible," said White House spokesman Scott McClellan.

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh said on his show, "This is the kind of thing that ought to force him to resign in disgrace."

But Durbin, who became the assistant Democratic leader--his party's second-in-command in the Senate--at the start of this year, was unrepentant.

On a range of matters, the 60-year-old from Springfield is key in helping devise his party's strategy to protect the filibuster, oppose certain judicial nominees, halt President Bush's plan to partially privatize Social Security and try to project a positive Democratic agenda...

Durbin is just following the Dem game plan...do and say wild liberal things to make Hillary look moderate for 2008.

In the meantime, Americans with common sense need to remember what these idiots do and say come time for their own reelection bids.

Durbin is a traitor who is giving aid and comfort to our enemies...but no one in power has the cojones to do anything about it!

Compliments of Fox News:

"Clearly, that's over the top. That is not what is happening at Guantanamo Bay. What is happening at Guantanamo Bay is we're trying to treat people humanely, recognizing that these are terrorists,"

Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas

"Senator Durbin's statements are deplorable. He should ask for forgiveness, forgiveness from our troops, from their families and all of us who are trying to win this War on Terror,"

Sen. George Allen, R-Va

"And for you to come to the floor with just that fragment of a report and then unleash the words 'the Nazis,' unleash the word 'gulag,' unleash 'Pol Pot,' I don't know how many remember that chapter, it seems to me that was a grievous error in judgment and leaves open to the press of the world to take those three extraordinary chapters in world history and try to intertwine it with what has taken place, allegedly, at Guantanamo,"

Sen. John Warner, R-Va

Glad to see our Virginia boys stepping up to the plate.

That "fragment of a report" purportedly from an FBI agent was ANONYMOUS. Yet Durbin w/out a shred of proof that it was authentic broadcast its charges on the floor of the US Senate and maligned our troops fighting to defend us all from those who want to kill us.

To compound his egregiousness, he refused to apologize for his callousness.

Liberals really believe what the second ranking liberal on Capitol Hill said on the Senate floor.

Liberals have become the poster children for the killer terrorists of the world. No wonder the liberals are worried about the Patriot Act, we could make a case that Senator Durbin is providing recruitment advertising for the terrorist's network.

Dear Senator Durbin:

We write to object to your reference to Nazis in the context of the debate on detainees at Guantanamo Bay on the Senate floor earlier this week.

Whatever your views on the treatment of detainees and alleged excesses at the Guantanamo Bay facility, it is inappropriate and insensitive to suggest that actions by American troops in any way resemble actions taken by Nazis in their treatment of prisoners. Suggesting some kind of equivalence between their interrogation tactics demonstrates a profound lack of understanding about the horrors that Hitler and his regime actually perpetrated.

We urge you to repudiate your remarks and apologize to the American people for distorting an important issue with an inappropriate comparison to Nazi tactics. However heated the debate over issues of the day, we would urge you to refrain from using Holocaust imagery in the future.

Durbin has indeed betrayed the U.S. military, and while it's all well and good for us to ridicule him for his perfidy, his actions warrant... um... actions. This guy needs to pay a heavy price for this crap, personally and (I use the term advisedly) professionally.

But even some hard words are better than nothing, I suppose. Where's the saintly and heroic media darling from AZ on this? Of all people, wouldn't HE be the right man to put this whole Gitmo=Gulag lie to rest? Certainly he can't be more interested in senate cameraderie or personal gain than standing up for our troops, can he?

And pissed on the graves of every victim of the Soviet gulags, the killing fields of Cambodia, and Nazi Germany.

I wrote a letter to the ADL stating that if they didn't CONDEMN Durbin for his statement, that will just confirm that the ADL and B'Nai Brith is nothing more than a bunch of leftist democratic shills (which they are, but what the hell), and that they would NEVER get another dollar of charity out of me (which I stopped donating to years ago, due to BB's anti-gun stance).

Returning to the Senate floor Thursday night, Durbin reread his original statement, saying he wanted his colleagues to understand the context of his remarks. "It has been nothing short of amazing," he said of the reaction.

Now of course he says it was taken out of context.
As I wrote on another thread yesterday,Durbin was making these statements looking directly into an overhead camera. He knew full well that his statements were going to make the news and was counting on the MSM to continue the drum beat that the Bush administration was committing atrocities.Nothing was taken out of context, this was political maneuvering that due to the dems continuing blindness to the beliefs of the majority of the American people backfired on them.

And let's not forget just who allowed Pol Pot to start playing his games in Cambodia. If the US hadn't cut and run from Viet Nam, just how many lives might have been saved. And who was it behind that "strategy?" Interestingly enough, it's the same people saying that we need to "cut and run" in Iraq too!

Dear JOOOOS,

So, are you happy having your victimhood used as a bludgeon over and over again by the democrats? How does it feel knowing that your parents, aunts and uncles murders are being used by political hacks for political gain, which is, by the way, putting our brave service men and women at ever greater risk.

Al Jezeera is featuring Dick Durbin as their favorite US senator, joining such luminaries as McDermott and Kennedy.

Think about this the next time you consider yourself a democrat.

It is not required of anyone to comment on Drubins BS. I

I would say and a lot better so I haven't commented.

Others may have similar reasons for not commenting.

It is clear from your comments that you don't like McCain,

about him in this case is close to that bast.rd Durbin. You
are in my opinion out of order!
